Former Stoke City<\/a> and Middlesbrough manager Tony Pulis is believed to be in advanced talks with Sheffield Wednesday<\/a>. Several media outlets, including the Sheffield Star<\/span><\/a> and talkSPORT, <\/span><\/a>have reported that Pulis is in pole position to take over from Garry Monk<\/a> who was sacked earlier this week.<\/p>\n

Tony Pulis Set to Become Sheffield Wednesday Manager<\/b><\/h2>\n

Pulis in Pole Position to be New Sheffield Wednesday Manager<\/b><\/h3>\n

62-year-old Tony Pulis appears to be in pole position to take over the reins at Hillsborough. According to Sky Sports<\/span><\/a>, the former West Bromwich Albion<\/a> manager has held preliminary talks and is expected to hold further talks in the coming days.<\/p>\n

Pulis has been out of management since leaving Middlesbrough at the end of the 2018\/19 season. He is an experienced manager with a record of never being relegated. Tony Pulis could be exactly what Wednesday need as they struggle at the foot of the Championship.<\/p>\n

Wednesday were hit with a 12-point penalty in August for the current season after being found guilty of breaching EFL spending rules. However, an appeal saw this penalty halved to six points. The Owls are currently 23rd in the table with only Derby County having had a worse start to the season.<\/p>\n

Garry Monk Disappointed to be Sacked\u00a0<\/b><\/h3>\n

Former manager Garry Monk, who was sacked on Monday, has said that he is disappointed to have been sacked and unable to see out the project he started.<\/p>\n

In a recent statement released, Monk said<\/span><\/a>: “It is a huge disappointment to be leaving Sheffield Wednesday. It has always been a real honour and privilege to be manager of this historic club.<\/p>\n

“Arriving at the club last September, I gladly accepted the huge challenge, which was something I was determined to get my teeth into. Making our way to third position on the league at the turn of the year was good progress.<\/p>\n

“Unfortunately we were unable to maintain that form and produce the same consistency to gain the results we wanted.<\/p>\n

“Amongst many other factors, strengthening my staff this summer enabled us to meet the target set for this stage of the season; being out of the minus points and beginning the next phase of climbing the league. It is a big disappointment to be unable to see the project through.”<\/p>\n

Many Managers Have Applied According to Chairman<\/b><\/h3>\n

Sheffield Wednesday chairman Dejphon Chansiri has revealed that many managers have applied for the vacant managers’ position.<\/p>\n

Speaking on Wednesday, Chansiri said<\/span><\/a>: “I want to do the best thing for the club, it\u2019s an amazing club. We need time to think about it.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think (we need to hire somebody) as soon as possible. Actually there are many managers who have sent offers, so we need to look at it and see who is the best.<\/p>\n

\u201cEvery manager is good and has good experience and ability, but I can choose just one. So I\u2019ll try to choose the best I can choose at the moment.\u201d<\/p>\n
