James Tarkowski<\/a> has rejected a new contract offer at Burnley<\/a>, according to Matt Law of the Telegraph<\/a>. The 27-year-old is wanting to take back control of his own career, after the club denying him a summer move.<\/p>\n

During the transfer window, the defender stated his intentions of playing European football and for England.<\/a> He also felt that being at Burnley was hindering his chances for international selection.<\/p>\n

Burnley Dealt Big Blow With James Tarkowski Turning Down New Contract<\/h2>\n

Burnley Proposed a Contract That Was ‘Nowhere Near’ Good Enough<\/h3>\n

With contract talks failing to benefit either party, Burnley may be pressurised into selling the 27-year-old, rather than losing him for free.<\/p>\n

He told The Telegraph:<\/a> “There is nothing I have heard or has been put to me that makes me think there is a scenario in which I would sign a new contract. Burnley offered me a contract near the start of last season, which, for me, personally, it was nowhere near what I was going to sign and I think the club understood. And they’ve come back again this year, and still, for me, it’s just not right.<\/p>\n

“That can change, but currently, that is the situation.”<\/p>\n

Where Next for James Tarkowski?<\/h3>\n

James Tarkowski was subject to a great deal of speculation during the last transfer window<\/a>, but nothing materialised. Leicester City<\/a> and West Ham United<\/a> both saw bids rejected by Burnley, who were holding out for an offer in the region of \u00a345 million.<\/p>\n

Since their rejected bid, the Foxes have signed 19-year-old defender<\/a> Wesley Fofana<\/a>, in a fee around the \u00a335 million mark. It subsequently means that their interest in Tarkowski has been put on hold.<\/p>\n

However, it seems that West Ham could make another move for Englishman in January. The Hammers failed to address their centre-back situation during the summer, and Tarkowski may once again be targeted.<\/p>\n

Big Blow for Already Suffering Burnley<\/h3>\n

Burnley have started the season poorly, accumulating just the two points in seven games. Additionally, the Clarets have tricky visits to Manchester City<\/a> and Arsenal<\/a>, before hosting high-flying Everton in their next four games.<\/p>\n

Therefore, Tarkowski’s contract situation is an added pressure in an increasingly difficult time for the Lancashire club.<\/p>\n
