According to Andy Naylor of The Athletic<\/a>, Brighton & Hove Albion<\/a> are set to begin talks with Solly March<\/a> over a new contract.<\/p>\n

Discussions are set to begin in 2021 after they were delayed so that his strong start to the season could be further assessed by the club over a longer period of time.<\/p>\n

A new deal would see March reach a decade at the club, after signing from non-league club Lewes in December 2011.<\/p>\n

Solly March Set for New Contract Talks<\/h2>\n

Nine Years at the Club<\/h3>\n

March has been an ever-present in the Brighton team since joining from the Isthmian League Premier Division side. Despite not playing a game in his first full season at the club, the following season he would go on to make 25 appearances for The Seagulls in all competitions.<\/p>\n

He also played a massive part in their promotion to the Premier League<\/a> in the 2016\/17 season.<\/p>\n

Despite starting that season with the under-23s, he worked his way back into the first team, scoring three times and getting three assists in 25 games as Brighton were promoted automatically.<\/p>\n

The following season he played all but two Premier League games and was crucial as Brighton battled to stay up in their first-ever season in England’s top flight.<\/p>\n

Having been at the club for almost a decade, the 26-year-old is a real fan favourite, with many fans calling for an England call-up after a strong start to this season.<\/p>\n

New Position This Season<\/h3>\n

Despite being a more attacking player, Graham Potter’s move to three at the back has meant that March has had to move into more of a wing-back role this season.<\/p>\n

However, the Englishman has taken to his role well and has been one of Potter’s best players this season as The Seagulls sit three points above the drop zone.<\/p>\n

His start to the season even had him rumoured as a shock call-up to the England squad for their games against the Republic of Ireland, Belgium and Iceland. However, nothing ever materialised from that rumour despite the Three Lions’ current problem at left wing-back.<\/p>\n

His conversion to a wing-back role has provided balance in their defence and allowed Tariq Lamptey<\/a> to shine on the opposite side of the pitch. The more attacking right-back has been able to get forward in a wing-back role, which has allowed him to get three assists and one goal so far this season.<\/a><\/p>\n
