Newcastle United<\/a> have awarded promising youngster Elliot Anderson<\/a> with a new long-term contract.<\/p>\n

The 18-year-old, who was an unused substitute in a League Cup tie at Newport County earlier this season, has been promoted to the senior squad on a permanent basis.<\/p>\n

At 17-years-old, Anderson penned his first professional deal with the Magpies, but the club have extended his current deal with the midfielder having just turned 18.<\/p>\n

The central midfielder, who is a Scotland U19 international, has been with the club since the age of eight and is one for the future, insists manager Steve Bruce.<\/p>\n

Speaking after their cup tie at Newport back in September, Bruce said<\/a>: “He\u2019s done very, very well. We\u2019ve got a few knocks, so we decided to reward him by putting him on the bench. In another game, he might\u2019ve come on. He’s another one with a bright future.”<\/p>\n

Bruce has got a reasonable reputation with giving youngsters game time at St. James’ Park, including the Longstaff brothers, Sean<\/a> and Matthew<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Anderson Reacts<\/h3>\n

Speaking about the news, the 18-year-old was equally delighted to be tied down to his boyhood club.<\/p>\n

He said: “It’s a year on from my first one and when I got told that they were going to offer me a new contract, I was buzzing.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

“I didn’t really expect it but it makes you want to keep pushing on and see that rewards are given here.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt helps you keep going and I’m really pleased.\u201d<\/p>\n

The youngster will be hoping to follow in his grandfather’s footsteps. Geoff Allen played as a winger for Newcastle during the 1960s and was part of the squad which won the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup at the end of the decade in 1969.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

He has had a bright start to the Premier League 2 season, scoring once from the opening two games.<\/p>\n
