Several teams have found out this season how tricky it is to snatch a result from the South West including Championship side Queens Park Rangers.

Overall, their home record is sensational in 2020. Since defeat to Swindon Town on New Year’s Day, the Pilgrims have gone twelve unbeaten on their pitch. In fact, its 15 wins from their last 20 home league games – impressive form which manager Ryan Lowe wanted to instil when he took over in June 2019.

Home truly is where the heart is for Plymouth and Ryan Lowe gives his team the attacking freedom to dominant proceedings on their own turf.

Lowe’s Attacking Philosophy

Since his appointment as Plymouth manager, Lowe has instilled an attacking philosophy which really has reaped reward, especially at home. The Pilgrims 3-4-3 set up causes teams severe problems. The movement of the attacking players means visiting defenders are moved about and ultimately, Plymouth are taking their chances when they arise.

Only Blackpool and Shrewsbury Town have stopped Plymouth scoring more than once at home this season. Shrewsbury are the only side to walk out of Home Park with a result.

Since that draw, Plymouth have won four on the spin at Home Park. Burton Albion, Doncaster Rovers, Northampton Town and Swindon Town have all crashed to defeats at Home Park in the last month.

They are deadly at home and certainly should they maintain this kind of form, it could be yet another excellent season for the Pilgrims.

The Attacking Style Paying Dividends for Plymouth Argyle at Home Park

With the wins flowing at Home Park, goals are also flying. In total 17 goals have been scored at Home Park this campaign – The Pilgrims have notched 12 of those. It has very much been a place for goals this campaign. Ryan Lowe takes the shackles off at home and of course they are benefitting from that.

Their most recent win at home against Swindon saw them score four goals. Luke Jephcott was the star of the show that night scoring twice. The young Welsh striker has had a breakthrough 2020 having spent time on loan at Truro City in the first half of the 2019/20 season. He has burst onto the scene and was integral to Plymouth securing promotion. Ryan Lowe has total belief in him and the striker is full of confidence having notched five goals in seven games.

The key man in Plymouth’s excellent home form is midfielder Conor Grant. The box to box midfielder has missed recent matches due to self-isolation but his return was welcome on Tuesday evening. He orchestrated the midfield as he does in most Plymouth games. He crowned his excellent performance with a stunning free-kick to seal that 4-2 success. Grant is an integral player in how Ryan Lowe wants Plymouth to play and certainly the former Everton man is getting better and better.

Back to Back Promotions Is Not Out of the Question

Plymouth’s start to the season has been strong and certainly, they are in the race for a top-six place. Their home form has been terrific and this alone gives them a real shot at consecutive promotions.

Teams are finding Plymouth tough opposition and the trip to Devon is one many teams will dread as the season continues. The bigger picture is promotion for Plymouth and that is not out of the question this season having only just returned to League One.

Home Park is a fortress and Ryan Lowe will be determined to maintain that for the rest of the season. Imperious at home is an understatement and going forward, there will be a strong determination from the players to keep it that way.

Main Photo

Embed from Getty Images

It’s been a terrific start to the season at Home Park for Plymouth Argyle; the Pilgrims are eighth in League One after collecting 16 of their 18 points from their opening ten games at home.
