Danny Ings<\/a> is set to undergo surgery on a knee injury suffered in the closing stages of Southampton<\/a>‘s Premier League victory over Aston Villa<\/a> on Sunday.<\/p>\n

It is being widely reported<\/a> that the striker’s injury is not as severe as was initially feared, and Saints boss Ralph Hasenhuttl is expecting Ings to be sidelined for between four and six weeks.<\/p>\n

Danny Ings to Undergo Knee Surgery<\/h2>\n

Club Scans Indicated ‘Favourable’ Initial Results<\/h3>\n

28-year-old Ings has a history of knee problems at former clubs. For instance, the forward’s career at Liverpool<\/a> was disrupted by both ligament and cartilage damage.<\/p>\n

It meant fears of a long-term injury layoff arose quickly in the aftermath of his injury at Villa Park, with manager Hasenhuttl stating after the game that the situation did not “look good”<\/a> for his main goalscorer.<\/p>\n

However, initial fears were abated following scans carried out by Southampton’s medical team. The results were described as ‘favourable’ by the club, who also detailed that they would “continue to monitor” Ings over the course of this week.<\/p>\n

Hasenhuttl Confirms Ings to Have Knee Surgery<\/h3>\n

On Wednesday morning (4 November), Hasenhuttl confirmed that the player will undergo minor surgery on the injured knee.<\/p>\n

“The worst thing is maybe Danny Ings,” the Saints boss said in quotes reported by Dan Sheldon of the Athletic<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“It looks as though he is out for four-to-six weeks. He will have surgery tomorrow [Thursday] morning; a small one. He is out. This is not good for us,” added the 53-year-old.<\/p>\n

Last season was the most productive of Ings’ Premier League<\/a> career. The striker netted 22 goals in the top flight as he mounted an unlikely challenge for the golden boot award, with only Leicester<\/a>‘s Jamie Vardy<\/a> scoring more<\/a>.<\/p>\n

If Ings is out of action for the next six weeks, he will miss games against the likes of Wolves<\/a> and Manchester United<\/a>. Hasenhuttl will hope to have him back before the fixture against Arsenal<\/a> on 15 December.<\/p>\n
