Two teams remained unbeaten before this gameweek; these teams were surprise leaders Everton<\/a> and Dean Smith’s Aston Villa<\/a> – who only just survived relegation last season on the final day. No players of either team will feature in our Premier League team of the week.<\/p>\n

Premier League Team of the Week: Gameweek Six<\/h2>\n

Everton and Aston Villa Fall to First Defeats<\/h3>\n

As the dust settled on the weekend’s Premier League action, both teams had registered their first loss of the season. Villa were humbled on Friday evening when Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds United<\/a> ran out deserved 3-0 victors<\/a>. Everton also tasted defeat, going down 2-0 to Southampton<\/a> as the Toffees were reduced to ten men for the second consecutive week with Lucas Digne<\/a> getting his marching orders.<\/p>\n

Liverpool<\/a> moved into second – level on points with their Merseyside rivals – coming from behind to beat Sheffield United<\/a> 2-1 at Anfield. There were impressive away victories for Crystal Palace<\/a> and Leicester City<\/a>, getting the better of Fulham<\/a> and Arsenal<\/a> respectively. Manchester United<\/a> and Chelsea<\/a> played out the weekend’s solitary goalless draw while West Ham United<\/a> vs Manchester City<\/a> and Wolverhampton Wanderers<\/a> vs Newcastle United<\/a> also finished level.\u00a0<\/p>\n

On Monday evening Tottenham Hotspur<\/a> earned a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Burnley<\/a> and Brighton & Hove Albion<\/a> vs West Bromwich Albion<\/a> finished one apiece.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Let’s take a look at who earned a place<\/a> in our Premier League team of the week for gameweek six:<\/p>\n

GK: Edouard Mendy<\/a> (Chelsea)<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Chelsea’s goalkeeper troubles have been well documented recently; however they may have finally found their man in Edouard Mendy. The former Rennes shot-stopper made an array of saves to thwart Manchester United. In the process, he kept his third clean sheet in a row.<\/p>\n

CB: Jannik Vestergaard<\/a> (Southampton)<\/strong><\/h4>\n

The giant Dane is the first of a trio of Saints players who make the cut this week following their impressive 2-0 victory over league leaders Everton. Vestergaard marshalled the defence well whilst keeping in-form Dominic Calvert-Lewin<\/a> at bay.\u00a0<\/p>\n

CB: Wesley Fofana<\/a> (Leicester City)<\/strong><\/h4>\n

What is it with Leicester City and centre backs? First Harry Maguire<\/a>, then Caglar Soyunco, now teenager starlet Wesley Fofana. The Frenchman looked a seasoned veteran in his sides 1-0 win over the Gunners with a solid and comfortable display.\u00a0<\/p>\n

CB: Luke Ayling<\/a> (Leeds United)<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Had it not been for Ayling’s brilliant clearance off the line in the first half then who knows which way the game might have gone. Leeds came away with a clean sheet and all three points in their impressive 3-0 victory over Aston Villa.<\/p>\n

CM: James Ward-Prowse<\/a> (Southampton)<\/strong><\/h4>\n

The Englishman was pivotal in Southampton ending Everton’s unbeaten start to the season. Ward-Prowse opened the scoring with a well worked finish following a neat one-two with Danny Ings<\/a> and was assured throughout.<\/p>\n

CM: Tanguy Ndombele<\/a> (Tottenham Hotspur)<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Ndombele was given the hook at half time by Jose Mourinho in this fixture last season however the Frenchman repaid his managers faith in him with an energetic performance at Turf Moor.\u00a0<\/p>\n

RW: Wilfried Zaha<\/a> (Crystal Palace)<\/strong><\/h4>\n

The former Manchester United man had a hand of both goals as Palace secured an away win over London rivals Fulham. Zaha teed up his side’s opener before netting what turned out to be the winner midway through the second half. That’s five league goals so far for Zaha, which already betters last seasons return (4).<\/p>\n

LW: Diogo Jota<\/a> (Liverpool)<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Jota has quickly shown his worth to Jurgen Klopp, settling into his new home on Merseyside. The Portugal international headed home the winning goal, sealing a comeback victory over Sheffield United.<\/p>\n

ST: Danny Ings (Southampton)<\/strong><\/h4>\n

While the Englishman didn’t find the net in his sides 2-0 victory over Everton, Ings provided both assists – showing a different side to his game.\u00a0<\/p>\n

ST: Patrick Bamford<\/a> (Leeds United)<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Without doubt, the easiest selection this week is Leeds United man Patrick Bamford. The striker doubled his account for the season with a stunning second-half hat-trick against previously unbeaten Aston Villa. Only Son Heung-min<\/a> (8) and Dominic Calvert-Lewin (7) have scored more than Bamford so far this term.<\/p>\n

ST: Harry Kane<\/a> (Tottenham Hotspur)<\/strong><\/h4>\n

The Spurs striker completes the trio of English strikers up top in this week’s Premier League team of the week. He didn’t score the winning goal against Burnley however his all-round play was excellent. Kane headed off his own goal line in the second half before using his head again, flicking on a corner for Son Heung-min to nod home the winner.<\/p>\n
