{"id":570059,"date":"2020-10-22T09:36:16","date_gmt":"2020-10-22T13:36:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/football\/?p=570059"},"modified":"2020-10-23T14:09:52","modified_gmt":"2020-10-23T18:09:52","slug":"racism-allegations-in-u12-match-lead-to-fa-investigation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/football\/2020\/10\/22\/racism-allegations-in-u12-match-lead-to-fa-investigation\/","title":{"rendered":"Racism Allegations in U12 Match Lead to FA Investigation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An FA investigation is underway after allegations of racism marred an U12 football match in Essex.<\/p>\n<h2>Essex County FA Investigating Claims of Racism in U12 Match Between Baddow Spartak and Levels FC<\/h2>\n<h3>Insults of &#8216;B***k M****y&#8217; and &#8216;Black Lives Don&#8217;t Matter&#8217; Allegedly Made Towards Players of Levels FC<\/h3>\n<p>Echo Junior League side Levels FC have claimed that two of their players were racially abused against Baddow Spartak on 18 October.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s alleged that two members of the Baddow Spartak team racially abused black players of Levels FC \u2013 the first shouting \u201cblack lives don\u2019t matter\u201d, and the second calling a Levels FC player a \u201cb***k m****y\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Levels FC owner Terry Bobie-Agyekum was at the match. He recounted his version of events to Last Word On Football: \u201cDuring the game, one of the Baddow Spartak players said to two of our black players \u2018black lives don\u2019t matter\u2019\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe stopped the game \u2013 the Spartak manager said he\u2019d take the player off, but then left him on. He said he\u2019d speak to the player after the game\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe ball then went out of play \u2013 our player was a bit cheeky and delayed it. He was then called a b***k m****y\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe started crying and our players started running across to us [the coaches] \u2013 we told the ref \u2018that\u2019s it, we\u2019re not having that\u2019\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The second incident occurred just before the final whistle \u2013 with the game finishing 3-2 to Levels FC, despite having been 1-0 down.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Bobie-Agyekum also stated that the player who gave the second piece of abuse was reprimanded in front of his teammates by one of his parents.<\/p>\n<p>He then made the allegations on Twitter following the game.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">My <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LevelsFc?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">@LevelsFc<\/a> U12s played a game today vs Baddow Spartak. One of my players are called a \u201cblack monkey\u201d left in tears another 1 of their players shouts \u201cBlack lives don\u2019t matter\u201d but did not get substituted. I was waiting for this day! Well done to my players for not reacting!<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 TBOBZ (@TBOBSS) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TBOBSS\/status\/1317835469468651520?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">October 18, 2020<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Last Word On Football approached Baddow Spartak for comment &#8211; they said they will not be providing a statement at this time.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3>League&#8217;s General Secretary Threatens to Stop Working with Levels FC Unless Tweet Making Allegations is Removed<\/h3>\n<p>The incident has been reported to the Essex County Football Association.<\/p>\n<p>When asked if he had confidence in the incident being dealt with by the FA, Bobie-Agyekum said: \u201cNo chance. We had a similar problem last year\u2026 you report it, but you never hear anything back from it\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Echo Junior Football League \u2013 in which Levels FC and Baddow Spartak both play &#8211; responded on Twitter to Bobie-Agyekum\u2019s tweet which made the allegations.<\/p>\n<p>They stated: \u201cTrial by social media is NOT ACCEPTABLE. Please remove this tweet immediately and report in a proper way. Of course racism should not be tolerated, but as a league, we know there are always two sides to every story, which is why it must be investigated properly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"249\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-570284\" src=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/football\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2020\/10\/Levels-FC-Socials-300x249.jpg\" alt=\"U12 Match Racism\" srcset=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/football\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2020\/10\/Levels-FC-Socials-300x249.jpg 300w, https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/football\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2020\/10\/Levels-FC-Socials.jpg 627w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In an email sent out to all member clubs, the league also warned that the league &#8220;will not work with said club [Levels FC] moving forward&#8221;, if Bobie-Agyekum\u2019s tweet is not deleted.<\/p>\n<p>In a separate statement given to Last Word On Football, the league said: &#8220;Information relating to this match has been passed on to the Governance Team at the Essex County FA, who initiated an immediate investigation in-line with FA procedures.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Therefore, as this is an active case, our league is unable to comment.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h3>Anti-Racism Figures Unimpressed With League&#8217;s Response to U12 Match Racism Allegations<\/h3>\n<p>Anti-racism campaigners have criticised the league&#8217;s Twitter response.
