The Joe Rodon<\/a>–Tottenham Hotspur<\/a> saga has taken yet another twist<\/a>. Now, according to Mike McGrath<\/a>, Spurs have agreed a deal with Swansea City<\/a>. However, the deadline is coming quick, so it’ll be a race against time for the move to be completed.<\/p>\n

Homegrown Swansea Talent<\/h3>\n

The 22-year-old is Swansea through and through. Born in Wales, Rodon came up through the Swans’ youth academy all the way up to the first team, where he has since established himself as a key member of the squad.<\/p>\n

He is a starter when fit, which has been an issue for him throughout his career, but there’s no denying his quality. For a Spurs side that has had issues at centre-back, to have a quality, dependable 22-year-old can never be seen as a bad thing.<\/p>\n

There have been many complications with this move, and originally it seemed that it would not happen, but now Spurs are intending to push ahead with the move, throwing a late spanner in the works and trying to close the deal at the 11th hour.<\/p>\n

Injury-Riddled Career<\/h3>\n

Ever since Rodon has been in the senior squad, it’s certainly not been smooth sailing for him. He is only 22 and has suffered two long-term injuries. For an aspiring youngster, that can only be seen as a huge blow to morale.<\/p>\n

In his first season in the Championship, he suffered a metatarsal fracture which kept him out for nearly three months. Then in his second season, an ankle injury sidelined him for even longer.<\/p>\n

Rodon was out for three months again, but this time he returned from injury only to play five or six games before the COVID-induced hiatus. He was unable to play a single minute of the restart due to a flare-up of that same injury, which really means he was out for over six months, dealing a huge blow to Swansea’s promotion hopes.<\/p>\n

Regardless of his past injuries, he remains a solid defender, and sometimes that Championship experience is important for a top club, a guy who’s never afraid to get stuck in. If Spurs can pull this off, it’d be a fine acquisition for Jose Mourinho.<\/p>\n
