The Tottenham<\/a> Hotspur stadium is about to become even bigger. According to Alasdair Gold of Football.London<\/a>, Haringey council confirmed the capacity increase on Friday. Despite costing a staggering \u00a31 billion, the stadium is part of the Northumberland Development project. A large-scale regeneration plan for the Tottenham area.<\/p>\n

The extension would see an additional 547 seats in the ground, pushing the capacity up to 62,850. The more than impressive new stadium was opened in April last year, and even without the modifications, the ground is still the second largest in the Premier League.<\/p>\n

The seats will be added all across the stadium, with all tiers expecting to grow. The already huge south stand is also set to increase in size, despite it already being the largest single-tier stand in the UK.<\/p>\n

Additionally, there have been no objections from the Transport and Highways Authority or even the council itself. However, one local resident did raise an objection. Council documents reveal that the resident said:<\/a> “The disruption to local residents caused by the enormous multi-use stadium is immense.<\/p>\n

“It would bring the capacity to 2146 greater than the Emirates and is wholly unjustified.”<\/p>\n

‘Project Big Picture’ Would Mean Developments Would be Eligible for Rebate<\/h3>\n

Tottenham would be able to claim back around \u00a3125 million for the costs of their new stadium, if ‘Project Big Picture’. According to Sam Wallace and John Percy of the Telegraph<\/a>, a clause in the Manchester United<\/a> and Liverpool<\/a> backed ‘Project Big Picture’ proposal, Spurs and the Reds would expect to see monumental paybacks.<\/p>\n

The proposal is set to revitalise English football, but whether the notion has legs is yet to be determined. The \u00a3125 million in question would be welcomed with open arms by Tottenham. The Lilywhites have already taken out a \u00a3200 million loan<\/a> to cover funds lost during the pandemic thus far. Additionally, the North London club have also been extremely active this transfer window, with the arrivals of Sergio Reguilon<\/a>, Matt Doherty<\/a>, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg<\/a> and Carlos Vinicius costing over \u00a360 million.<\/p>\n
