Salford City<\/a> have announced the departure of manager Graham Alexander, who has left the club<\/a> despite an unbeaten start to the season.<\/p>\n

The club have confirmed that co-owner and former Manchester United<\/a> midfielder Paul Scholes has taken temporary charge.<\/p>\n

The Ammies are fourth in League Two<\/a> but have confirmed Alexander has left the club with immediate effect.<\/p>\n

Alexander\u2019s last game in charge was Saturday\u2019s 2-2 draw with Tranmere Rovers<\/a>. Salford were two goals up in the contest but threw the lead away.<\/p>\n

Alexander Departs Despite an Unbeaten Start to the Season<\/h3>\n

Alexander was in charge for just over two years, and in that time, he guided Salford to the Football League for the first before stabilising them in their maiden EFL season.<\/p>\n

The Ammies had started this season well, going unbeaten in their opening five league games. However, Salford\u2019s problem has been their home form, and it appears this was the straw that broke the camel\u2019s back. Salford were comfortably cruising to victory on Saturday but threw their lead away against a Tranmere side feeling the effects of the Coronavirus pandemic<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Alexander leaves Salford in fourth place with nine points from their first five games. Considered one of the promotion favourites, it has been a good start to the season for Salford but the timing of this decision will be questioned.<\/p>\n

Paul Scholes Takes Over on an Interim Basis<\/h3>\n

As well as confirming Alexander\u2019s departure, Salford also announced Paul Scholes will take over while a permanent successor is found.<\/p>\n

Scholes has some managerial experience having briefly managed Oldham Athletic<\/a>. It\u2019s a unique situation for a caretaker manager to walk into, particularly one that is also a co-owner of the club. Salford are playing relatively well and sitting in the League Two play-offs.<\/p>\n

Scholes\u2019 first game in charge is a trip to Port Vale.<\/p>\n
