To this day, his heart lies at Vicarage Road.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Now a regular starter at Inter Milan, Young has expressed his desire to return to the club where he started his career.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"teaser\">The 35-year-old has been a regular at Inter since his arrival in January, but he would love to go back to where his career began.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\u201cIf I could go back and play [at Watford] again, I would walk from Italy right now because it&#8217;s what I know, it&#8217;s where I come from and it&#8217;s what allowed me to be who I am and get where I am,\u201d he told the club\u2019s podcast\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.watfordfc.com\/magazine\/features\/podcast-golden-tales-episode-2-ashley-young\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Golden Tales<\/a>.<\/em><\/div>\n<h2>Return to Watford on the Mind of Ashley Young<\/h2>\n<div class=\"body\">\n<h3>Time With the Hornets<\/h3>\n<div class=\"ad-sportsbets\" data-role=\"ad\" data-name=\"ad-sportsbets\" data-slot-id=\"\/67970281\/DISPLAY_OWNED_GBL\/goalcom_responsive\/news_articles\/H2HWidget\">\n<div id=\"ad-5f804f311470e\" data-state=\"unloaded\">\n<div id=\"google_ads_iframe_\/67970281\/DISPLAY_OWNED_GBL\/goalcom_responsive\/news_articles\/H2HWidget_0__container__\">After joining Watford\u2019s youth system in 1995, Young went on to make his professional debut in 2003. His first senior goal came in that game as the Hornets beat Millwall 3-1 at Vicarage Road.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Young had had interest from bigger clubs during his late teen years but remained local to the Hornets. In the club podcast, he also said:\u00a0\u201cThere was interest from <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/football\/clubs\/west-ham\/\" target=\"_self\">West Ham<\/a> at the time, there was interest from <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/football\/clubs\/aston-villa-club-news-analysis-fixtures\/\" target=\"_self\">Aston Villa<\/a>, there was talk of <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/football\/clubs\/tottenham\/\" target=\"_self\">Tottenham<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, his response to the offers was: &#8220;No, Watford is my club, I don\u2019t want to leave. I\u2019ve just got promotion with a club I started at when I was 10, I\u2019m not ready to leave&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>He didn&#8217;t make it to the pitch many times that season, appearing just five times and scoring three goals. For the majority of the season, Young didn&#8217;t even make it to the bench.<\/p>\n<p>Young&#8217;s first full 90 minutes didn&#8217;t come until September 2004, once again when facing Millwall.<\/p>\n<p>He featured 107 times in all competitions before he left for Aston Villa after four years with Watford.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h3>After Watford<\/h3>\n<div class=\"body\">\n<p>In January 2007, Aston Villa completed the signing of Young for a fee of \u00a38 million &#8211; the highest the club had paid for a player at the time. He scored on his debut a week after signing.<\/p>\n<p>During his time at Villa, he picked up plenty of Player of the Month Awards, as well as the PFA Young Player of the Year award in 2009.<\/p>\n<p>The winger scored 39 in 190 appearances before transferring to <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/football\/clubs\/manchester-united\/\" target=\"_self\">Manchester United<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>He had a prolific career at United until the later seasons when the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/football\/2020\/08\/13\/manchester-united-2019-20-season-review-a-tale-of-two-halves\/\" target=\"_self\">fans turned against him<\/a>, despite picking up the Club Captain title in August 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Young <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/football\/2020\/01\/17\/inter-milan-confirm-the-signing-of-ashley-young-from-manchester-united\/\" target=\"_self\">joined Inter<\/a> in January 2020 in a six-month deal and has been a key player for the Serie A side. The contract was followed up with another with a one-season extension. The defender is set to be staying in Milan until the end of the 2020\/21 season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI loved everything about the club, to this day I love everything about the club.
