Manchester United<\/a> have reached an agreement with Porto for left-back Alex Telles,<\/a> according to Fabrizio Romano<\/a>. According to David Ornstein of The Athleic,<\/a> the deal is worth up to \u00a318 million with Telles set to sign a five year deal.<\/span><\/p>\n

The news will come as a relief for Manchester United fans who were previously set for a quiet end to the transfer window.<\/span><\/p>\n

With a deal for Edison Cavani reportedly imminent<\/a>, too, however, all of a sudden, United look ready to reach the top four of the Premier League for the second season running.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Much Needed Addition of Quality<\/span><\/h3>\n

Under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Manchester United have shown signs of significant progression. Just last season, they climbed from the chaos of the top-four battle and into the comforts of a third-place finish. There is a clear quality to the United starting 11; a clear attacking foundation.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

When it comes to the backline, however, the quality is so desperately lacking the star power needed to reach the top of English football. And that’s the difference between titles, as Sir Alex Ferguson once famously alluded too.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

By bringing Telles in, Manchester United are adding that extra depth of talent, both in attack and defence, needed to oversee a return to what was once their permanent throne.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Telles Perfect for Modern Day Game<\/span><\/h3>\n

As proven by the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City and many top clubs outside of the Premier League, the fullback position is now one of the most important roles a player can play on the pitch.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Trent Alexander-Arnold<\/a> and Andy Robertson<\/a> singlehandedly provided Liverpool with Premier League-winning goals at times last season; Manchester United must find a way of replicating the difference-making influence of the Liverpool men.<\/span><\/p>\n

Telles certainly has the attacking to do exactly that, too, having been involved in a total of 25 goals last season.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In the space of just a few days, Manchester United’s miserable window has seemingly turned into a promising one which could take them towards the top four qualifications.<\/span><\/p>\n
