Sheffield Wednesday have made their sixth signing of the summer, confirming<\/a> the arrival of Callum Paterson from Cardiff City<\/a> for an undisclosed fee.<\/p>\n

Versatility<\/h3>\n

The Scotsman has operated in several positions throughout his career, including as a central striker.<\/p>\n

Paterson began his career as a defender – but could also operate as a right midfielder. However, it was under Neil Warnock during his time at the Cardiff City Stadium that he underwent his first major positional change.<\/p>\n

Warnock moved Paterson into central midfield, citing<\/a> that the 25-year-old was not a good defender.<\/p>\n

Even at right-back, Paterson proved to be a goalscorer. He scored 11 goals during the 2013\/14 season with former club Hearts, and scored 10 times during his first season with the Bluebirds.<\/p>\n

As a result, it made sense to move him further forward. His performances for Cardiff during the 2017\/18 season saw him win their Player of the Season.<\/p>\n

However, Paterson was moved further forward once again during the most recent spell in the Premier League. The Scotsman scored on his debut as a striker, but could only score four times in 29 appearances.<\/p>\n

Out of Favour<\/h3>\n

Writing on his personal Instagram page,<\/a> Paterson revealed that he was surplus to requirements in South Wales.<\/p>\n

He said: “Absolutely gutted that my time at Cardiff City is over.<\/p>\n

“Very disappointed that I wasn\u2019t needed any more and now it\u2019s time to move on.<\/p>\n

“Massive thank you to the fans who welcomed me into the club from day one. You guys made it special for me.<\/p>\n

“Also big shout to the team, the best guys I\u2019ve ever been around and I am very grateful for everything we achieved together, I wish all of you guys the best.<\/p>\n

“I\u2019ve made the best memories and some friends for life and wish everyone all the best. Thank you.”<\/p>\n
