Following a 4-0 thrashing of Wolverhampton Wanderers<\/a> to ease the current tensions around the club, West Ham have turned their attention towards securing a central defender. According to Gianluca Di Marzio,<\/a> the Hammers have submitted a \u00a325 million bid for Fiorentina centre-back Nikola Milenkovi\u0107.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

The 23-year-old Serbian defender has attracted interest from the London club amid a recent lack of defensive options and West Ham’s general inability to keep a clean sheet, barring a superb win over Wolves.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The transfer would certainly put an end to the growing frustrations of West Ham fans who believe owners David Sullivan and David Gold are not pulling their weight to drag the club in the right direction.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Much has been made of West Ham’s chances of survival this season. Many have been quick to write them off before the season can truly get underway.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Yet, after the most unexpected thrashings of Wolves, the Hammers now seem more capable than ever of surviving just weeks after many had them down and out.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

And the truth is, they should comfortably avoid the drop, especially when considering the plethora of talent within their ranks. Should they secure Milenkovi\u0107, too, they may be able to dream of the comforts of mid-table.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Off the pitch, things may seem like they’re sinking; on it, West Ham, with the likes of Jarrod Bowen<\/a>, Michail Antoni<\/a>o and Declan Rice<\/a>, look perfectly capable of avoiding the disaster of the dropzone.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Milenkovi\u0107 One for Both the Present and Future<\/span><\/h3>\n

West Ham manager David Moyes will be desperate to prioritise the short term future of the club but will be well aware of how useful it may be to plan ahead to ensure West Ham’s Premier League place for years to come.<\/span><\/p>\n

By targetting Milenkovi\u0107, he and the club are doing exactly that. The 22-year-old has the ability to step straight into the Hammers’ backline for years to come and must be made the number one priority before the window slams shut.<\/span><\/p>\n
