West Ham United<\/a> have opened talks with Napoli<\/a> over a deal for defender Nikola Maksimovic<\/a>, according to Fabrizio Romano<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Hammers have been desperately chasing defensive reinforcements this summer and Maksimovic is the latest name to be linked.<\/p>\n

The Serbian defender is vastly experienced and would be a good addition to David Moyes\u2019 squad.<\/p>\n

According to Romano, negotiations between the two clubs are ongoing with no agreement yet reached. It is unknown whether the deal is a loan move or a permanent transfer.<\/p>\n

West Ham United In Talks With Napoli Over Defender Nikola Maksimovic<\/h2>\n

Maksimovic Would Arrive as West Ham\u2019s Second Summer Signing<\/h3>\n

David Moyes has made his feelings clear in terms of adding to his squad. He is desperate for defensive reinforcements with West Ham light at the back.<\/p>\n

The Hammers have been extensively linked with several defenders including Burnley\u2019s James Tarkowski<\/a>, Swansea City\u2019s Joe Rodon<\/a>, Arsenal\u2019s Calum Chambers<\/a> as well as Saint Etienne\u2019s<\/a> Wesley Fofana. However, Napoli centre half Maksimovic is the latest name to appear.<\/p>\n

The Serbian international will likely be a cheaper option for West Ham. This is largely due to his age and his lack of game time at Napoli with Kalidou Koulibaly<\/a> and Kostas Manolas<\/a> ahead of Maksimovic in the pecking order.<\/p>\n

Time at Napoli<\/h3>\n

The 28-year-old has been with Napoli for the last four years but injuries and the quality of players around him have meant a lack of game time. The defender has been loaned out during his time in Naples. Maksimovic had a brief loan spell at Spartak Moscow but struggled in Russia. A move to West Ham offers him a fresh start and a chance to play Premier League football.<\/p>\n

He will certainly be a welcome addition for David Moyes and the fans following a summer of unrest and uncertainty. Maksimovic will compete with the likes of Issa Diop and Angelo Ogbonna.<\/p>\n

The signing of Maksimovic would certainly be a good piece of business for West Ham.<\/p>\n
