Manchester City<\/a> have confirmed<\/a> that midfielder Ilkay Gundogan has tested positive for Coronavirus.<\/p>\n

The German international will now self-isolate in accordance with Government guidelines.<\/p>\n

Third Manchester City Play to Test Positive<\/h3>\n

Gundogan is the third Manchester City player to test positive for COVID-19 this month, after both<\/a> Aymeric Laporte and Riyad Mahrez tested positive on Monday 7 September.<\/p>\n

While Mahrez is set to be involved in City’s opening game of the season against Wolverhampton Wanderers<\/a>, Laporte will miss out after failing to recover in time.<\/p>\n

It is not clear how the German contracted the virus, or whether he is showing in symptoms. However, Manchester City have confirmed he will now self-isolate, wishing him well in his recovery.<\/p>\n

Gundogan made 50 appearances for Manchester City in all competitions last season, scoring five goals and registering five assists.<\/p>\n

Pep Guardiola Look to Begin Title Conquest at Molineux<\/h3>\n

City will begin their quest to regain the Premier League title at Molineux on Monday night.<\/p>\n

However, Pep Guardiola will be without three key players. As well as Laporte and Gundogan, City will be without striker Sergio Aguero.<\/p>\n

The Argentine is likely to miss the first two months of the season, according to Guardiola. Aguero sustained a serious knee injury post-lockdown, and the Spaniard knew he would be without his star striker for some time.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe knew that the injury was difficult,” Guardiola said<\/a> ahead of the Wolves game.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe is doing the job, in maybe one month or two months he will be ready.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe has to come back on the pitch and regain the physical condition.<\/p>\n

\u201cSergio was out for a long time and Sergio is not a guy who regains the physical condition quick so I think in one month or two months he will be ready.\u201d<\/p>\n
