Pep Guardiola<\/a> reportedly wants to sign a new contract at Manchester City<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Telegraph are reporting<\/a> that the Catalan manager wants “more than ever” to continue developing his team in Manchester.<\/p>\n

Pep Guardiola Wants New Contract at Manchester City<\/h2>\n

Guardiola Keen to Add to Historic Success<\/h3>\n

The former Barcelona<\/a> and Bayern Munich<\/a> manager joined Manchester City in 2016. Since then, he has won a host of honours with the club, including an unprecedented domestic treble in 2018\/19.<\/p>\n

The 2017\/18 season was also a historic campaign for the club as Guardiola’s side became the first team to reach 100 points in the Premier League.<\/p>\n

The 49-year-old has never spent more than four seasons managing a single club but has indicated a willingness to do so at City.<\/p>\n

“I would love to stay here,” said Guardiola of the prospect of remaining in Manchester beyond the end of his current contract in 2021. “It is a place I love to be but I have to deserve [it],” he added in quotes carried in the Independent<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis club achieved standards in the last decade but we have to maintain that and I have to deserve it. I am going to see if I deserve it this season in terms of how the club goes forward and improves.\u201d<\/p>\n

No Specific Goals for Guardiola This Season<\/h3>\n

Last season was a relative disappointment for City in the context of what the club has achieved under Guardiola. The Citizens were beaten to the Premier League title by Liverpool<\/a>\u00a0and lost to Lyon in the Champions League quarter-final.<\/p>\n

Guardiola, though, insists the club’s board has given him no specific instructions as to how to bounce back this season.<\/p>\n

“We didn’t speak with the club in these terms. They didn\u2019t push me from day one to today in September. They allow me to do my job the best I can and with all my staff and the players and this is going to continue.”<\/p>\n

“They didn\u2019t tell me you have to do this or you have to that or you have to win this or you have to win that. They told me to play.<\/p>\n

“In my feeling, I know the standards of the club and if I don\u2019t achieve the standards, I probably don\u2019t deserve [to stay] so I have to win to extend my contract.”<\/p>\n

Pep Guardiola Does Not Expect Contract Talks to Happen Soon<\/h3>\n

Though he is open to the idea of staying, Guardiola does not expect to hold talks with the club’s hierarchy any time soon to resolve his future. The manager cites fixture congestion as the primary reason for this.<\/p>\n

“We have every three days a game so we don\u2019t have much time to think about it. I try to see every day Txiki [Begiristain, director of football] and Ferran [Soriano, chief executive] and I speak every week with Khaldoon [al Mubarak, chairman].<\/p>\n

“When it is going to happen, it is going to happen. Now we have other issues. The organisation is so strong in all departments. It will not be a problem for the club to do what we have to do in the future.”<\/p>\n
