Following the arrival of Ki-Jana Hoever<\/a> and the departure of Diogo Jota<\/a>, Wolverhampton Wanderers have turned their attention towards Barcelona right-back Nelson Semedo.<\/a> According to Fabrizio Romano,<\/a> Wolves are one step away from securing a deal with their latest bid ready to be accepted by Barcelona and personal terms set to be agreed.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The fullback looks likely to become the latest Portuguese international to enter Nuno Espirito Santo’s side already full to the brim with Portuguese talent.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Semedo Nearing Wolves Move<\/span><\/h2>\n

A Move to Signal a Change in Formation?<\/span><\/h3>\n

For most of last season, and the start of this season, Wolves have played three at the back with two wing-backs. In this formation, it is usually Adam Traore<\/a> who takes up the Right wing-back position, flying up and down the flank with pace and power.<\/span><\/p>\n

With Semedo’s move reportedly imminent, however, we could see the Spaniard moved further up the pitch into a more attacking role. We could even see a formation change to four at the back to accommodate the arrival of Semedo. Jota’s exit has allowed for space next to Raul Jim\u00e9nez<\/a> in a front three.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It has to be said, an attacking trio involving Jim\u00e9nez \u00a0, Traor\u00e9\u00a0and one other of Wolves’ potent forwards is a frightening idea for rival clubs to comprehend. That, plus the safety of Semedo at right-back, should ensure another season of success at Molineux.<\/span><\/p>\n

A Risky Move Based on Form?<\/span><\/h3>\n

At his best, Nelson Semedo can provide any team with a solid option from right-back. The problem is, however, he rarely performs to his best these days. He was abysmal in Barcelona’s embarrassing exit in the Champions League<\/a> against Bayern Munich and, in truth, didn’t endure a season full of promise in La Liga.<\/span><\/p>\n

The signing is certainly not a risk-free one from Wolves when considering all the factors, but, if it helps free Traore from the shackles of a defensive position, then it may be well worth it.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
