Wolverhampton Wanderers<\/a> are considering a move for Sheffield United<\/a> full-back George Baldock, according to Mike McGrath of the Daily Telegraph<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Wolverhampton Wanderers Consider Move for George Baldock<\/h2>\n

Replacement for Matt Doherty<\/h3>\n

Wolves have been searching for a new right-back following the departure of Matt Doherty<\/a>. The Irishman joined Tottenham Hotspur<\/a> earlier in the window.<\/p>\n

Nuno Espirito Santo started Adama Traore at right wing-back in their 2-0 win over Sheffield United last weekend. While the Spaniard does have experience operating as a defensive cover, the Wolves boss would prefer to use his star man further up the field.<\/p>\n

As a result, the Portuguese is stepping up in the search for a replacement for Doherty. Wolves were interested in bringing Arsenal’s<\/a> Ainsley Maitland-Niles to<\/a> Molineux, but they were rebuffed in their attempts.<\/p>\n

However, their attention has now turned to Sheffield United’s George Baldock. The 27-year-old has played a huge part in the Blades’ rise over the last few years.<\/p>\n

Baldock was ever-present in Chris Wilder’s line-up last season, as Sheffield United made their long-awaited return to the Premier League. He featured in all 38 league games, scoring two goals and\u00a0 registering three assists.<\/p>\n

While the 27-year-old was excellent going forward for the Blades last season, he also impressed in his defensive duties. Baldock averaged 1.6 tackles<\/a> per game last season for United, while also completing one interception per game.<\/p>\n

A Good Fit for Wolves<\/h3>\n

The 27-year-old, should he join, will be able to slot perfectly into the system that Wolves operate in.<\/p>\n

Baldock has played as a wing-back throughout his entire career. While he is defensively astute, he plays better when he is able to get forward, especially when counter-attacking.<\/p>\n

As a result, it could prove to be an excellent signing for Wolves. It would allow Adama Traore to move further up the pitch, and for Wolves to utilise their system more efficiently.<\/p>\n
