Birmingham City have confirmed<\/a> the signing of Scott Hogan<\/a> for an undisclosed fee. The 28-year-old has penned a four-year deal with the Blues. Hogan returns to the St. Andrew’s Trillion Trophy Stadium with high enthusiasm following a successful loan spell last season.<\/p>\n

Lots of Loans<\/h3>\n

Born in Salford, Scott Hogan began his senior football career in non-league. His first professional contract came with Rochdale. A few years later, the attacker joined Brentford, where he was able to show his true potential. With the Bees, Hogan managed 21 goals in 36 appearances over two and a half years.<\/p>\n

This performance earned him a move to Aston Villa<\/a> in January of 2017 for \u00a39 million. That year, Villa were in the Championship<\/a> having been relegated from the Premier League<\/a>. At his new club, he only managed 14 goal contributions in 61 matches. After failing to reach expectations, his loan journey began.<\/p>\n

The Ireland International spent three short stints on loan, at Sheffield United<\/a>, Stoke City<\/a>, and Birmingham City. At the latter, he scored seven times in 17 appearances, making a big impact in the second half of the 2019\/20 season. Hogan won Championship Player of the Month in February.<\/p>\n

Permanent Move<\/h3>\n

Blues boss Aitor Karanka was impressed and decided to bolster his attacking options by offering him a permanent move, making him their eighth signing of the window<\/a>. He will wear the number 9 shirt and will look to once again link up with Lukas Jutkiewicz<\/a> in attack.<\/p>\n

Earlier this year, Hogan spoke<\/a> of joining permanently, saying: “I have made friends there, they have made me feel at home so I will be happy to do it if it comes about.<\/p>\n

“I always thought I could do it but it\u2019s just about getting regular games and I have not had that for two or three years now so it\u2019s been tough. I got off to a good start and it seems to have gone from there.”<\/p>\n

Birmingham started their competitive season on the wrong foot, with a defeat to Cambridge United in the EFL<\/a> Cup first round. Fortunately, their first league game ended in victory, 1-0 over Brentford, with the goal coming from French forward J\u00e9r\u00e9mie Bela. They now prepare to take on Swansea<\/a>, who have also won their first match in the Championship.<\/p>\n
