Rotherham United<\/a> have announced the loan signing of striker George Hirst<\/a> from Leicester City<\/a>, subject to Premier League, EFL and FA ratification.<\/p>\n

The 21-year-old joins the newly-promoted Millers on a season-long loan deal.<\/p>\n

Hirst\u2019s professional career began at Sheffield Wednesday<\/a>\u00a0as he followed in the footsteps of his father (David<\/a>), who holds legendary status at Hillsborough after playing for the club for 11 years between 1986 and 1997.<\/p>\n

However, Hirst Jr’s time with the Owls was much more short-lived as he made just two senior appearances. He joined Belgian side OH Leuven<\/a> in June 2018, who were then managed by Nigel Pearson.<\/p>\n

In the Belgian second division, the England U20 international impressed and netted three goals, which resulted in him earning a move to Leicester, who share the same owners as Leuven.<\/p>\n

Last term, Hirst showed a great deal of promise for the Foxes\u2019 U23 side and, as a result, he was handed his top-flight debut against Tottenham Hotspur<\/a> in July.<\/p>\n

With a number of players seemingly ahead of him in the pecking order at the King Power Stadium, the 6\u20193\u201d striker has now been given a chance to prove himself in the Championship. He becomes Rotherham\u2019s seventh signing of the summer so far.<\/p>\n

Hirst\u2019s debut for the Millers could arrive on September 19 when they are due to face Millwall<\/a> at home.<\/p>\n

Speaking to Rotherham\u2019s official club website<\/a>, Hirst expressed his eagerness to impress at second-tier level.<\/p>\n

He said: “I’m delighted to get it done. It’s a big opportunity for me.<\/p>\n

“To come to Rotherham and find out that they’ve been after me for a while was obviously a big part in my decision.<\/p>\n

“I have my own ideas of what is a successful season and what isn’t so successful, but we’ll take it one game at a time and hopefully get there.”<\/p>\n
