Tanguy Ndombele<\/a> is working harder than ever in training, according to Tottenham Hotspur<\/a> manager Jos\u00e9 Mourinho. The Spurs boss feels that if the Frenchman can maintain that intensity, he can unlock his ‘incredible potential’ to shine in North London.<\/p>\n

Ndombele struggled during his first season in England and was often subject to criticism towards his work-rate and desire.<\/p>\n

Midfielder Struggled to Impress Last Season<\/h3>\n

The 23-year-old joined Spurs from French club Lyon for \u00a354 million last summer<\/a>. However, the midfielder often appeared unsettled during a disrupted campaign which saw Mauricio Pochettino<\/a> sacked and replaced by Jos\u00e9 Mourinho.<\/p>\n

This led to speculation linking Ndombele with a move away from the club after just one season, with the likes of Barcelona<\/a> and Inter Milan<\/a> reportedly interested.<\/p>\n

Ndombele’s performances on the pitch also came in for scrutiny. The club-record signing was substituted at half time during a league game against Burnley<\/a> in March and was criticised by his manager for a string of lacklustre showings.<\/p>\n

“I was expecting players not tired to give more to the team, and I think somebody has to realise that this is the Premier League<\/a>. This is a new experience, and the first time he comes to Burnley, and I hope next season he can be fantastic because right now it is not enough,” said Mourinho<\/a> of his decision to withdraw the player after 45 minutes.<\/p>\n

Mourinho Now Impressed With Ndombele Attitude<\/h3>\n

It now appears Ndombele has won over his manager ahead of the new campaign. The player’s new-and-improved work-rate has led Mourinho to repeat his belief in the potential he has to deliver for the club.<\/p>\n

“He’s working very hard. I have to be honest and say he is working better than ever,” Mourinho told football.london<\/a> ahead of his side’s opening fixture against Everton<\/a> on Sunday.<\/p>\n

“So the point now is can he keep that commitment and desire? If he does it, he has incredible potential.”<\/p>\n

Ndombele is looking to build on a debut campaign in which he made 29 appearances in all competitions, scoring twice.<\/p>\n
