Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang<\/a> has signed a new three-year contract at Arsenal<\/a>. He will become Arsenal’s highest-paid player as a result.<\/p>\n

The 31-year-old’s future was in doubt earlier in the summer transfer window. But Aubameyang’s new contract will see him remain at Arsenal until 2023.<\/p>\n

New Deal for Aubameyang<\/h3>\n

Aubameyang had just 12 months left on his previous deal, which was due to expire in June 2021. But Arsenal will be delighted to secure their top-scorer for another three years.<\/p>\n

Mikel Arteta<\/a> was influential in convincing Aubameyang to stay according to David Ornstein at the Athletic<\/a>. The Spanish coach maintains an excellent relationship with Aubameyang and his father. This proved to be key in the striker’s decision to stay in North London.<\/p>\n

Aubameyang and Arsenal started negotiating a new contract last summer<\/a>. However, the Gabon striker became less interested in committing to Arsenal under previous boss, Unai Emery.<\/p>\n

Since then, Arteta made good progress at Arsenal. Both Arteta and Aubameyang also maintain a strong mutual respect for each other. This also reportedly convinced the 31-year-old to stay<\/a> at the Emirates.<\/p>\n

Arsenal Secure Key Player<\/h3>\n

Aubameyang’s new deal is an important piece of business for Arsenal this summer. The Gabon international scored 71 goals in over 100 appearances for Arsenal since he joined from Borussia Dortmund<\/a> in January 2018.<\/p>\n

Aubameyang’s importance to the club became apparent when he became a captain in November 2019. Granit Xhaka<\/a> lost the captaincy after the 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace. The Swiss international stormed off the pitch and gestured to fans at the Emirates.<\/p>\n

Aubameyang was named as the next Gunners captain and he has since displayed exceptional professionalism in the role.<\/p>\n

The 31-year-old excelled when Arteta’s arrival in December 2019. He scored six goals in his first seven under Arteta and contributed to 20 goals in 23 appearances since the Spaniard’s arrival.<\/p>\n
