Oxford United<\/a> manager Karl Robinson is set to sign a new four-year contract at the club, according to Jason Burt<\/a> of The Telegraph. The former MK Dons<\/a> and Charlton Athletic<\/a> boss has been in charge of the U’s since 2018 and guided them to the League One play-off final last season.<\/p>\n

After the disappointment of their play-off final defeat to Wycombe Wanderers in front of an empty Wembley back in July, Oxford could have been forgiven for wanting to go in a different direction and parting ways with Robinson.<\/p>\n

However, this strong act of loyalty, offering such a long-term deal, shows that the Oxford hierarchy know how good a manager they have at the helm. His first season at the Kassam Stadium ended in relative disappointment with a 12th-placed finish. Given that he had once guided MK Dons out of the division and done much of the work to get Charlton into the play-offs the season before, this was seen as a poor standing.<\/p>\n

However, the improvement undertaken in the 2019\/20 season was drastic. Going into the play-offs, they were the most in-form team in the league and there was every reason to believe they could have gone up automatically had it not been for the season’s early curtailment.<\/p>\n

The Season Ahead<\/h3>\n

Given their strong performances last season and the fact they have been able to sign striker Matty Taylor on a permanent deal, there is a lot of optimism surrounding Oxford this season.<\/p>\n

There is even more reason for that now given that Karl Robinson will likely be around for the long-term. No doubt, Oxford are one of the favourites to go up this season, whether that is automatically or through the play-offs.<\/p>\n
