Following a loan spell at Bundesliga<\/a> 2 club Stuttgart, Nat Phillips<\/a> is set to leave Liverpool this summer. According to James Pearce of The Athletic<\/a>, Liverpool<\/a> will offload the defender this summer with Bristol City among the clubs interested.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A loan move instead of a permanent one is still an option, especially when considering Liverpool’s current shortage of centre-backs.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It looks likely to depend on what offers the Premier League<\/a> champions receive for the 23-year-old ahead of the new season. Should a reasonably priced offer come in, don’t be surprised to see Phillips head out the exit door on a permanent basis this summer.<\/span><\/p>\n

The End of Any Hope of a Liverpool Chance<\/span><\/h3>\n

Nat Phillips certainly proved his capabilities when he briefly returned to Anfield to play Everton<\/a> in the FA Cup. The defender played a crucial part in keeping the Merseyside rivals out as the Liverpool youngsters rose to victory. It was a quick visit for Phillips, however, as he soon jetted back to Germany to continue his loan spell despite impressing for Liverpool.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

If given the chance, Phillips could perhaps stake a claim for the vacant backup position left by Dejan Lovren<\/a>. The young defender proved his worth on the biggest of stages against Everton, so a chance to impress once more is the least he deserves.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Much Needed Game Time<\/span><\/h3>\n

Unfortunately, though, football doesn’t work like that, and Phillips will reportedly be shown the door towards another loan move or a permanent switch this summer. The one positive the former Stuttgart loanee can take from the situation is game time.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The young defender will be almost guaranteed game time should he be offloaded to a championship club this summer. And, ultimately, as the game time comes, so will the experience and improvement needed to perform week in week out.<\/span><\/p>\n
