Manchester United<\/a> are expecting a new bid from AS Roma<\/a> for Chris Smalling<\/a> soon, as reported<\/a> by Fabrizio Romano.<\/p>\n

Smalling spent the last campaign on loan with the Serie A<\/a> side and appears to be available for a permanent transfer this summer.<\/p>\n

Manchester United Looking for Defender as Smalling Bid Expected<\/h2>\n

Roma to Return for Smalling<\/h3>\n

Manchester United and AS Roma have previously been unable to meet on their valuation of Chris Smalling, however, Roma, under new ownership<\/a>, have not given up hope of seeing the England<\/a> international return to Rome.<\/p>\n

On Monday night, Gianluca Di Marzio reported<\/a> that Roma are also interested in signing Atletico Madrid<\/a> defender Nehuen Perez<\/a>, 20, who spent last season on loan at Famalicao in Portugal.<\/p>\n

With Federico Fazio<\/a> on the way out, Perez’s potential arrival does not seem to impact the move for Chris Smalling, who remains the priority.<\/p>\n

Smalling\u00a0wants to return<\/a> to Stadio Olimpico, despite interest<\/a> from the Premier League<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Manchester United Keen to Add a Defender<\/h3>\n

Fabrizio Romano adds that Manchester United will look to sign a central defender if a ‘good opportunity’ arises in the transfer market in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n

The Red Devils reportedly had a bid rejected<\/a> for AS Monaco<\/a> defender Benoit Badiashile<\/a> in the past week. Despite being a defender, Badiashile has scored two goals in two Ligue 1<\/a> games so far this season.<\/p>\n

Dayot Upamecano<\/a> was linked<\/a> with United on Monday.<\/p>\n

Kalidou Koulibaly<\/a> has long been a reported target, but it is surely unlikely United will fork out such a fee that Napoli<\/a> chairman Aurelio De Laurentiis seems to be asking for, especially if Jadon Sancho<\/a> is still their primary target.<\/p>\n

Van de Beek Move Nears Completion<\/h3>\n

It is added that Ajax midfielder Donny van de Beek<\/a>‘s move to Old Trafford is all set<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Dutch midfielder, 23, completed a medical in Amsterdam on Monday and will sign a five-year contract with his new club.<\/p>\n

He will be United’s first signing<\/a> of the transfer window as they head into the 2020\/21 season.<\/p>\n
