Ipswich Town midfielder Flynn Downes<\/a> says he is “hopeful” that he will remain at Portman Road beyond the end of the transfer window.<\/p>\n

Town Reject Second Palace Bid<\/h3>\n

The talented 21-year-old’s impressive performances led to rumours of a move to several Premier League clubs, including Crystal Palace<\/a>, Arsenal<\/a> and West Ham United<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Downes, who is contracted to Town until at least 2022, was labelled with a \u00a34 million price tag.<\/p>\n

According to Stuart Watson of the East Anglian Daily Times<\/a>, the Suffolk side have rejected a second bid from Palace.<\/p>\n

The Eagles have reportedly lodged a bid of around \u00a32 million for the 21-year-old.<\/p>\n

But, having featured in all but seven of the Blues’ League One fixtures last season, the Essex-born midfielder has played down speculation of a move away.<\/p>\n

Asked whether he will continue to be a Town player this season, Flynn Downes said<\/a>: “Yeah, hopefully. We’ll see. You can never say for sure, but hopefully I will be.<\/p>\n

“I’ve heard little bits and bobs, but I’m just focussing on the football.<\/p>\n

“That’s all I can say really. Everything will be taken care of.”<\/p>\n

Midfield Dilemna for Town Boss Paul Lambert<\/a><\/h3>\n

Departures from Portman Road are likely before the start of the season.<\/p>\n

Town boss Paul Lambert has already commented on needing a squad of a manageable size.<\/p>\n

And with eight players available to play in midfield, that position is likely to receive attention in the next few weeks.<\/p>\n

Speaking to BBC Suffolk, Flynn Downes added: “We’ve got a lot of options in midfield. I feel sorry for the gaffer, because he’s got to pick the team.<\/p>\n

“Everyone wants each other to do well though and I think that breeds a winning team.”<\/p>\n

Lambert currently has Downes, Andre Dozzell<\/a>, Teddy Bishop<\/a>, Jon Nolan<\/a>, Tristan Nydam<\/a>, Alan Judge<\/a>, Cole Skuse<\/a> and Emyr Huws<\/a> all available to play in midfield.<\/p>\n

At 34-years-old, Skuse is unlikely to feature in every fixture this season; the remaining seven players, however, will have to compete for one of three places in Lambert’s preferred 4-3-3 set-up.<\/p>\n
