Matt Doherty<\/a> is close to completing his move from Wolverhampton Wanderers<\/a> to Tottenham Hotspur<\/a>, according to Fabrizio Romano<\/a>. The right-back will become Jose Mourinho\u2019s third signing of the transfer window following the additions of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Joe Hart.<\/p>\n

An Exciting Addition<\/h3>\n

Matt Doherty<\/a> had more touches in the opposition box than any other defender in the Premier league since the 2018\/19 season. He plays as a marauding wing-back and gets forward at every opportunity. It will be interesting to see if he is allowed that sort of freedom under the rather more cagey Spurs boss Jose Mourinho.<\/p>\n

He hugs the touchline and offers his team a great deal of width. Mourinho has favoured a back four so how Doherty will fit in is of interest. Spurs’ current right-back, Serge Aurier, also gets forward but his end product is often lacking in conviction. In fact, last season, Aurier put in the fourth highest number of crosses for a defender, but 85.4% of them didn\u2019t reach their intended target.<\/p>\n

Fee<\/h3>\n

The fee for the right back is believed to be<\/a> around \u00a312 million rising to \u00a316 million after add ons.<\/p>\n

There may well be players who are easier on the eye than Matt Doherty but he is robust, full of experience and is a threat when he does get forward, scoring seven goals last season. With the talent Spurs have in the final third, it makes Doherty a great addition to the squad.<\/p>\n

Jose Mourinho Player<\/h3>\n

Jose Mourinho likes his players to work hard all over the pitch and Doherty does that in abundance. Having already sold Kyle Walker-Peters<\/a> to Southampton<\/a>, Serge Aurier may also now be sold although Mourinho may want to keep Aurier to make sure he has back up across his defence.<\/p>\n
