Harry Maguire<\/a> has been found guilty<\/a> of aggravated assault, resisting arrest and continuous attempts of bribery. The England defender, selected in Gareth Southgate’s latest squad, was originally involved in a confrontation with others last Thursday in Mykonos before police arrived and the situation escalated.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Manchester United<\/a> defender has been handed<\/a> a prison sentence of 21 months and 10 days. This will, however, be suspended as it was a first offence and the charges were misdemeanours. The news will come as somewhat of a relief for Maguire, who should now avoid any prison time.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Maguire’s Lawyer, Alexis Anagnostakis, told the court<\/a> that two Albanian men approached Maguire’s sister before injecting her with an unknown substance, causing her to faint. They then called for transport which was meant to be going to the hospital but, instead, went to the police station.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Anagnotakis then stated that Maguire was told ‘your career is over’ following a kick to his leg.<\/span><\/p>\n

The officer who arrested the Manchester United man stated, however, that, when handcuffed, Maguire pushed the officer to the floor. A third officer also gave a similar account.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As for the bribery, the prosecution stated<\/a> that Maguire said upon entering the station, “Do you know who I am? I am the captain of Manchester United. I am very rich, I can give you money, I can pay you, please let us go.”<\/span><\/p>\n

After previously sending Raheem Sterling<\/a> home following an incident with Joe Gomez<\/a>, one would think that Maguire’s place in the England squad will be rescinded following the guilty verdict.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Gareth Southgate certainly has a big decision to make about Maguire’s place in the squad. The England boss may be forced into calling up the likes of Lewis Dunk<\/a> instead.<\/span><\/p>\n
