An independent disciplinary commission has cleared Derby County of both charges relating to the EFL’s profit and sustainability rules.<\/p>\n
Derby originally faced punishment by the EFL for two separate breaches.<\/p>\n
However, the Championship<\/a> club has today released a statement announcing that both charges have been dismissed by an independent disciplinary commission.<\/p>\n The first charge given to the club relates to their stadium valuation and how it allegedly breached the EFL’s financial regulations.<\/p>\n The club sold Pride Park Stadium, valued at \u00a380 million, to owner Mel Morris in 2018;\u00a0 giving them a profit of over \u00a314 million in their 2017\/18 accounts.<\/p>\n In turn, this ensured that they did not breach the EFL’s profit and sustainability rules which state that a club cannot lose \u00a339 million over a three-year period.<\/p>\n This decision by the commission to dismiss the EFL’s charges comes after other clubs have been punished for similar offences.<\/p>\n Sheffield Wednesday have been handed a 12-point deduction<\/a> in regards to the sale of Hillsborough in a similar manner to Derby’s financial manoeuvre.<\/p>\n The Yorkshire club will now begin the new season on -12 points as a result of the charge.<\/p>\n Derby’s second charge, which relates to how the club values their players, has also been dismissed.<\/p>\n However, the commission stated that the wording of the club’s amortisation policy “could have been clearer” in its financial statements.<\/p>\nDerby Warned Over Policy Wording<\/h3>\n
