Leicester City<\/a>\u00a0youngster Luke Thomas<\/a> has signed<\/a> a new long-term contract with the club.<\/p>\n

The academy graduate made his first-team debut in the Foxes’ 2-0 win over Sheffield United<\/a> on July 16. He also featured for Brendan Rodgers<\/a>‘ side in their final two fixtures of last season, against Tottenham Hotspur<\/a> and Manchester United<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Thomas has been a part of Leicester’s academy since 2008. The 19-year-old will be aiming to build on the promise he showed towards the end of the 2019\/20 campaign with the Foxes.<\/p>\n

Manager Brendan Rodgers told the club\u2019s website that he is pleased with the progress the young left-back has made. “Luke is a fantastic young player, and we\u2019re really pleased that he\u2019s committed his long-term future to the Football Club. He\u2019s got lots of potential and I\u2019m excited to continue working with him and helping him to develop his game,” said the 47-year-old.<\/p>\n

“He showed tremendous ability in the three games he played for us at the end of the season, which was testament to him and his family, as well as the hard work of the staff from the Academy who have guided him on his journey with Leicester City so far,” added the Leicester boss.<\/p>\n

At international level, Thomas has featured for both England\u2019s U18 and U19 teams. The player was also recently named the 2019\/20 Development Player of the Season at his boyhood club.<\/p>\n

Luke Thomas is Expected to Feature Heavily Next Season<\/h3>\n

The left-back, who can also play in midfield, is poised to see an increase in game time next season.<\/p>\n

Ben Chilwell<\/a> is expected<\/a> to leave for Chelsea<\/a>\u00a0this summer. The move will open a space in Rodgers’ side which Thomas could fill as he continues his steady rise into the first team picture.<\/p>\n

Though the exact length of his contract has not been disclosed, Thomas follows James Maddison<\/a> and Nampalys Mendy<\/a> in committing his future to the Foxes.<\/p>\n
