Leicester City<\/a> midfielder Nampalys Mendy<\/a> has agreed a contract extension with the Foxes. The Frenchman has been with Leicester since 2016 making 49 appearances across four seasons.<\/p>\n

The midfielder has signed a two-year extension as Leicester continue their preparations for the new season.<\/p>\n

Mendy Rewarded With New Contract<\/h3>\n

Mendy\u2019s contract initially expired at the end of June but the Frenchman had agreed to a short term deal to see out the 2019\/20 season. His performances on the pitch and training have impressed Leicester enough to offer him a new deal.<\/p>\n

He helped Leicester to a fifth-place finish in the Premier League<\/a> thereby helping them secure Europa League<\/a> football for the new season. His four years at Leicester have seen injuries and form of other players limit his playing time. However, he is a player Brendan Rodgers really likes, and hopes can play a big role when the new season gets underway.<\/p>\n

Speaking to the Leicester City website<\/a> about Mendy\u2019s contract extension, manager Brendan Rodgers said: \u201cI\u2019ve enjoyed working with Papy since I arrived at Leicester City.<\/p>\n

“The more I\u2019ve seen of him, the more impressed I\u2019ve been, so I\u2019m delighted he\u2019s extended his deal with the Club as he has an important role to play.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo have someone with his experience, quality and maturity is a big boost for us, especially with European football next season.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s been first class for me. And has played very well every time he\u2019s featured, so I\u2019m delighted that he\u2019s committed to continuing to be part of what we\u2019re trying to build at Leicester City.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mendy Needs to Deliver on the Pitch<\/h3>\n

The midfielder has struggled to make a sustained impression on the pitch flattering to deceive on several occasions. However, Leicester offering him a new deal shows their commitment and confidence in him.<\/p>\n

His game time should increase in the new season with Leicester set to compete in four competitions. Mendy could be an important player should he recapture the performances he produced at OGC Nice.<\/p>\n

He needs to kick on now and prove why Leicester gave him a new deal.<\/p>\n
