Newly-promoted side Fulham<\/a> have announced the signing of Antonee Robinson from Wigan Athletic<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Defender Completes Move to Fulham<\/h3>\n

The Latics defender is, according to Paul Joyce of The Times<\/a>, set to move for a fee of \u00a31.9 million.<\/p>\n

Having completed a medical, the Daily Mail<\/a> claim the 23-year-old will sign a contract worth \u00a345,000-a-week.<\/p>\n

The USA international was a sole positive during Wigan Athletic’s relegation to League One<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Mostly played at left-back, the 23-year-old made 38 Championship<\/a> appearances – scoring once and assisting once.<\/p>\n

Robinson, a former Everton<\/a> academy product, joined Wigan Athletic permanently last summer following a loan spell in Lancashire.<\/p>\n

Sheffield United<\/a>, Newcastle United<\/a> and West Bromwich Albion<\/a> have all been linked; however, it is Fulham who have got their man.<\/p>\n

January Italy Move Fell Through<\/h3>\n

Robinson failed to complete a move to Italian giants AC Milan in January.<\/p>\n

The USA international was expected to complete a \u00a36 million move to the Italian side.<\/p>\n

But a complication in the medical, a heart problem, ruled him out of the transfer.<\/p>\n

The Verdict<\/h3>\n

In comparison to Fulham’s last set of preparations for the Premier League<\/a>, boss Scott Parker is making a much more considered approach.<\/p>\n

The Whites ended up splashing \u00a3100 million two seasons as they looked to remain in the top flight.<\/p>\n

But the West London side overspent on several players who went on to underperform.<\/p>\n

For Robinson, a move to Craven Cottage softens the blow of January’s failed move to Italy.<\/p>\n

The young full-back had glimpses of a future playing alongside Zlatan Ibrahimovic, then he had an away trip to Burton Albion<\/a> on his path.<\/p>\n

Now, however, he has been given a lifeline by Scott Parker – the opportunity to play in the Premier League.<\/p>\n

Joe Bryan is Parker’s preferred choice at left-back while Tim Ream, Steven Sessegnon, Denis Odoi and Cyrus Christie provide back-up options.<\/p>\n

Ream and Odoi, however, are both over 30 and, therefore, Robinson may be regarded as a longer-term asset at Craven Cottage.<\/p>\n
