Manchester United’s<\/a> young winger Tahith Chong<\/a> has joined Bundesliga side Werder Bremen on a season long loan deal.<\/a><\/p>\n

Chong Officially Joins Werder Bremen on Loan<\/h2>\n

Chance for First Team Action for Chong<\/h3>\n

Chong signed a new contract with United in March, which will run until June 2022. The move to the German side is a great opportunity for the Netherlands under-21 player to get first team experience.<\/p>\n

Joining United’s academy from Dutch side Feyernoord in 2016, Chong made his senior debut two years later in United’s 2018 pre-season tour of the USA.<\/p>\n

Career So Far<\/h3>\n

Chong is seen as one to watch at United. Impressive displays in the reserve team earned him the Denzil Haroun Reserve Player of the Year award in 2018-19.<\/p>\n

His competitive debut came in a 2-0 win over Reading in the FA Cup. Arguably his best game in a United shirt so far came in the epic 3-1 victory over Paris Saint-Germain<\/a>. Coming on as a substitute and busy throughout, Chong showed great determination to help the team record a famous comeback.<\/p>\n

Chong has made a total of 16 first team appearances for United.<\/p>\n

Hindered Progress in First Team<\/h3>\n

Despite Ole Gunnar Solskj\u00e6r’s\u00a0promotion of young players, Chong’s chances of a continuous run in the team have been scarce. Up against established players such as Marcus Rashford<\/a>, his progress into the first team has been hindered.<\/p>\n

With United reportedly in the market for a winger, too, alongside the emergence of fellow academy player Mason Greenwood, it is unlikely that the academy graduate would have been able to break into the first team in the coming season.<\/p>\n

Nevertheless, it is clear United still have long term plans for Chong. A club statement<\/a> reaffirmed the intention for Werder Bremen loanee to get “valuable first team experience by joining Bremen.”<\/p>\n

The Bundesliga side finished 16th last season, only avoiding relegation by defeating Bundesliga 2 side Heidenheim on away goals.<\/p>\n
