League Two<\/a> club Southend United<\/a> have appointed<\/a> Mark Molesley as their new manager. The news was announced today on the official Southend United website<\/a>. The former Weymouth boss takes over after former England<\/a> defender Sol Campbell<\/a> left the club after relegation from League One<\/a>. United managed just four victories in 35 games last season and will now be looking at Molesley to turn around their fortunes.<\/p>\n

Southend United Appoint Mark Molesley as Manager<\/h2>\n

Success at Weymouth<\/h3>\n

39-year-old Molesley enjoyed a successful time in charge of his last club Weymouth. He took charge of the club after finishing his playing career. The former Bournemouth<\/a> midfielder almost guided the team to promotion in his first season, narrowly missing out. However, promotion to the National League South followed the following year.<\/p>\n

Back to back promotions were achieved when Molesley led the club to the National League<\/a> for the first time in 11 years.<\/p>\n

An Exciting Time for Mark Molesley<\/h3>\n

Speaking after being confirmed as United manager, the former assistant manager of Bournemouth’s U23 side, a position he held whilst at Weymouth, said that this was an exciting time<\/a>:<\/p>\n

“It\u2019s a really exciting time for me and my assistant manager coming in,\u201d Molesley, who will be joined by Tom Prodomo who was his assistant for the last three years at Weymouth, told iFollow Blues.<\/p>\n

“It\u2019s a great day for us but it\u2019s also a little bittersweet because I\u2019m leaving two fantastic clubs as well, in Bournemouth and Weymouth. But we\u2019re really excited by this challenge at this great football club so I\u2019m proud to be standing here and excited by the challenge.”<\/p>\n

“We\u2019re going to work tirelessly hard for this football club and invest all our time into the process. There\u2019s plenty for us to sink our teeth into, we\u2019re really glad to be here and excited by the challenge.”<\/p>\n

Uncertain Times for Southend United<\/h3>\n

Even though United have brought in a new manager, these are worrying times for the Essex club. A winding-up petition against Southend United<\/a> has been adjourned<\/a> for a third time, until 16 September. The League Two<\/a> club owe an unknown amount of tax to HM Revenue & Customs. It was the HMRC who issued the petition. Plans to move to a new ground and use Roots Hall as a housing development could provide the funds to pay the amount due.<\/p>\n
