Today, Chris Powell<\/a> has been appointed as a new academy coach at Tottenham Hotspur<\/a>. This is as part of an academy shake-up at the club.<\/a><\/p>\n

Chris Powell Appointed To Spurs\u2019 Academy<\/h3>\n

Following the departure of John McDermott, who joined the Football Association, Daniel Levy has restructured the academy. Whilst first team transfers have been the main talking point for Tottenham Hotspur after the strange \u2018Corona Season\u2019 came to a close, Daniel Levy sees the academy set up as being vital to the clubs’ progression.<\/p>\n

He told The Evening Standard: <\/a>\u201cWe have an incredibly talented coaching team in place throughout the academy and we believe this structure will also allow them to continue to grow and develop over the coming years\u201d<\/p>\n

New Structure<\/h3>\n

Current academy manager, Dean Rastrick<\/a> now takes on overall responsibility for the youth set up. 50-year-old Powell becomes Head of Coaching for all teams from under 17\u2019s through to the under 23\u2019s.<\/p>\n

The changes also mean that former Tottenham player Ryan Mason <\/a>becomes head of player development. Mason <\/a>previously held the position of U19\u2019s coach.<\/p>\n

Diversity<\/h3>\n

The appointment of Chris Powell is more good news for diversity. Former Tottenham captain<\/a>, Ledley King,<\/a> was appointed First Team Assistant Coach recently, meaning Powell is the second Black, Asian and Ethnic minority (BAME) coaching appointment at the club.<\/p>\n

Leadership<\/h3>\n

Powell is now part of a leadership team at the North London Club. The club want more players to graduate from the academy sides to the First team. They want players to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Ryan Mason, Ledley King, Harry Winks and Harry Kane.<\/p>\n
