AS Roma<\/a> have placed their goalkeeper Robin Olsen<\/a> on the transfer list. Several European clubs were reportedly looking at Olsen even prior to this latest <\/span>development<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Plenty of Interest Across Europe<\/h3>\n

Last week, it was reported by Corriere <\/em><\/span>dello<\/em> Sport<\/em> that Bayer Leverkusen were ‘getting closer’<\/a> to signing Olsen. Though, the Bundesliga<\/a>\u00a0club could face <\/span>competition<\/span> from Celtic<\/a> of the Scottish Premiership<\/a>. Aston Villa<\/a> of the Premier League<\/a> are also said to be in the picture<\/a>. Whilst, <\/span>Sporting CP<\/a>, a<\/span>ccording to Portuguese newspaper A Bola<\/em><\/a>, are another club with interest.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to Italian Sky Sport<\/em> journalist Mario Giunta, Scottish champions Celtic have had an offer rejected by the Serie A<\/a> side.<\/span><\/p>\n

Who Is Olsen?<\/span><\/h3>\n

He is a 30-year-old goalkeeper from Sweden. He was the first choice for his country during the 2018 World Cup. His <\/span>performances<\/span> – in helping Sweden<\/a> reach the quarter-finals<\/a> – convinced AS Roma to sign<\/a> Olsen for an initial \u20ac8.5 million.<\/span><\/p>\n

This transfer was in July 2018. At the time, Roma had just sold Alisson<\/a> to Liverpool<\/a>. Replacing Alisson is a tough act for any goalkeeper. Sadly for Olsen, he endured a difficult 2018\/19 season in Rome.<\/span><\/p>\n

Last summer, Roma appointed Paulo Fonseca as their new manager. The club also decided to sign Pau Lopez<\/a> from Real Betis<\/a> as Roma’s new first-choice keeper. Roma then loaned Olsen to their <\/span>Serie<\/span> A rivals Cagliari<\/a>, where he <\/span>deputised<\/span> for Alessio Cragno<\/a>, who had sustained a long-term injury.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Aston Villa Link<\/span><\/h3>\n

Reports in the Italian media state<\/a> that Olsen could join Aston Villa. There is a good reason for this speculation.<\/span><\/p>\n

Two weeks ago, Villa <\/span>appointed<\/span><\/a> Johan Lange as their new Sporting Director. He joined the Midlands’ club from FC Copenhagen<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Lange arrives at Villa Park with a <\/span>formidable<\/span> reputation for finding talent at FC Copenhagen. He adopted<\/a> the business policy of “buy low; sell high” to his player transfer recruitment.<\/span><\/p>\n

One such signing for FC Copenhagen was Olsen, who<\/span> originally joined on a loan deal in January 2016. <\/span><\/p>\n

Lange spotted his potential and paid \u00a3630,000 to Greek side PAOK to sign the former Malmo FF<\/span> keeper permanently. This represented one of the best deals<\/a> in the Danish club’s history. They made a <\/span>reported<\/a> \u00a37.5 million profit <\/span>when they sold him to Roma.<\/span><\/p>\n

Olsen’s next destination is uncertain, but <\/span>his AS Roma career is almost definitely over.<\/span><\/p>\n
