Wolverhampton Wanderers<\/a> boss Nuno Espirito Santo says he needs to bolster his squad with more players for next season.<\/p>\n

Wolves lost 1-0 to Sevilla<\/a> in their Europa League quarter-final tie last night. The result left the Portuguese manager reflective on how to take his team forward moving into next season.<\/p>\n

Espirito Santo: \u2018It’s a Small Squad\u2019<\/h3>\n

In his post-match interview after Wolves’ elimination from the Europa League, Espirito Santo explained the demands on his squad over the season.<\/p>\n

Wolves’ 2019\/20 season lasted 383 days and his side played 59 matches<\/a> in all competitions, including 19 Europa League fixtures.<\/p>\n

They began their campaign in July 2019, playing a Europa League qualifying match against Crusaders on July 25 last year.<\/p>\n

However, Wolves managed a seventh-place finish in the Premier League and an impressive Europa League run.<\/p>\n

Following the defeat to Sevilla whilst speaking to BBC Sport<\/a>, Espirito Santo said: “We need more players to help us, it’s a small squad.<\/p>\n

“Let’s look at our future and what we need. The club has been amazing. Making good decisions will help us to be stronger.”<\/p>\n

Squad Fatigue<\/h3>\n

The length of Wolves’ season caught up with the squad. Eight of their players featured in over 50 matches, with Conor Coady<\/a>, Jo\u00e3o\u00a0Moutinho and Leander\u00a0Dendoncker all featuring in 57 games this season.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n

Nuno Espirito Santo only used 21 players throughout the Premier League<\/a> campaign, three fewer than any other team.<\/p>\n

In his post-match interview, the Wolves boss explained the importance of resting before the 2020\/21 season.<\/p>\n

He said<\/a>: “It’s time to recover. We need to rest, a big break. We should prepare well for next season and make good decisions to allow us to continue growing.<\/p>\n

“It is time to reflect and analyse. The team that started the game is the same as the first game of the season. We made mistakes we cannot repeat.”<\/p>\n
