{"id":561209,"date":"2020-08-07T12:31:35","date_gmt":"2020-08-07T16:31:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lastwordonfootball.com\/?p=561209"},"modified":"2020-08-21T12:08:49","modified_gmt":"2020-08-21T16:08:49","slug":"oxford-united-midfielder-cameron-brannagan-signs-new-deal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/football\/2020\/08\/07\/oxford-united-midfielder-cameron-brannagan-signs-new-deal\/","title":{"rendered":"Oxford United Midfielder Cameron Brannagan Signs New Deal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonfootball.com\/search\/Oxford+united\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Oxford United<\/a> midfielder <a href=\"https:\/\/fbref.com\/en\/players\/9220e731\/Cameron-Brannagan\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cameron Brannagan<\/a> has signed a new two-year deal, keeping him at the club until 2023.<\/p>\n<h2>Cameron Brannagan Commits Future to Oxford United<\/h2>\n<h3>New Two-Year Deal<\/h3>\n<p>The 24-year-old has committed his future and will stay with the club for the foreseeable future, having had just one year left on his current deal.<\/p>\n<p>It also ends any potential speculation about him leaving the club, with <a href=\"https:\/\/oxford.vitalfootball.co.uk\/leeds-united-target-oxford-midfielder\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Leeds United<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/oxford.vitalfootball.co.uk\/burnley-join-race-for-oxford-midfielder\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Burnley<\/a> among those to have previously shown interest in the midfielder.<\/p>\n<p>Brannagan has made 104 appearances for the U&#8217;s since his arrival from <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonfootball.com\/clubs\/liverpool\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Liverpool<\/a> in January 2018, and has become one of the clubs most prized assets.<\/p>\n<p>Last season, the midfielder scored seven times and added seven assists as the U&#8217;s finished in fourth place. He also scored the decisive penalty kick in the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonfootball.com\/2020\/07\/07\/oxford-united-secure-playoff-final-spot-after-penalty-shootout-victory-against-portsmouth\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">League One play-off semi-final second leg against Portsmouth.<\/a><\/p>\n<h3>What Was Said<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.oxfordmail.co.uk\/sport\/18636193.cameron-brannagan-signs-oxford-united-contract-extension\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Speaking to the Oxford Mail<\/a>, Brannagan said: \u201cI\u2019m absolutely made up. It\u2019s a big thing for me and my family,\u00a0Oxford\u00a0stood there and helped me out when I really needed a platform to get first-team football and get my name out there.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey were the club to step in and really push me and help me as much as they could.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLast season we played some great stuff and it was very unfortunate not to go all the way, but that\u2019s life and we move on.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSigning the contract is massive, I love it here, love living here and I\u2019m just looking forward to get going again.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>When interviewed by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oufc.co.uk\/news\/2020\/august\/cameron-brannagan-signs-new-deal\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">clubs&#8217; official website<\/a>, Brannagan added: \u201cI\u2019m more than happy to be here. All I want is to win promotion and be successful with this club.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe club is set up for that and I have loved my time here so far. I owe the club a lot because they took a chance on me as a young player and I want to repay that.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think the fans have seen what we are about &#8211; there are record sales for season tickets and that\u2019s amazing.
