Werder Bremen<\/a> director Frank Baumann has confirmed the Bundesliga<\/a> side are in “good talks” with Manchester United<\/a> for the signing of Tahith Chong<\/a>, in quotes<\/a> from Deichstube cited by Goal’s Charlotte Duncker.<\/p>\n

Manchester Evening News recently reported<\/a> that Werder Bremen were leading the race to sign Chong on loan.<\/p>\n

Chong signed<\/a> a 2-year contract extension at Old Trafford in March, with the option of a further year.<\/p>\n

Werder Bremen Director Confirms Talks With Manchester United for Tahith Chong<\/h2>\n

More Game Time Needed<\/h3>\n

Chong, 20, hasn’t seen much first-team football for Manchester United this season.<\/p>\n

The Dutch midfielder has featured in 12 games, making just four starts.<\/p>\n

He has provided two assists in the Europa League<\/a>, only Juan Mata<\/a> (five) and Fred<\/a> (four) have more for United. Chong has played less than 300 minutes in the competition.<\/p>\n

Good Fit<\/h3>\n

“He is a player who is interesting for us, no question about it,” Frank Baumann said<\/a>. “We need a player like him in the position he plays. We are in good talks with Manchester United, but there are several details to be agreed on.”<\/p>\n

The Werder Bremen director was also quoted speaking of Chong by Sky Sports<\/a> earlier this week.<\/p>\n

“He plays with great speed and his profile fits. Because of our situation, he is a player who could be interesting.”<\/p>\n

Chong Keen on Bundesliga Move<\/h3>\n

Werder Bremen remain in the Bundesliga having survived<\/a> a relegation play-off with Heidenheim<\/a>. The game was a 2-2 draw over two legs, however, Bremen retained their spot in the top flight on away goals.<\/p>\n

Chong’s agent Erkan Alkan has confirmed<\/a> the Dutchman is keen to play in the Bundesliga.<\/p>\n

“Tahith would like to join the Bundesliga,” he told Bild. “We’ll talk to Man United about it on Thursday.”<\/p>\n

The Bundesliga has proven a useful destination for young talents to progress and develop. Jadon Sancho<\/a>, who is heavily linked<\/a> with a move to Manchester United, left Manchester City<\/a> for Borussia Dortmund<\/a> in 2017 and is now one of the best young talents in world football.<\/p>\n

Jude Bellingham<\/a>, 17, left Birmingham City<\/a> for Dortmund with similar hopes.<\/p>\n

Regular first-team football will help Chong improve and strengthen his chances of breaking through at Old Trafford.<\/p>\n
