Bayern Munich<\/a> are set to allow Jerome Boateng to leave the club this summer.\u00a0According to Christian Falk of Bild<\/a>, the German defender wants to extend his current deal, which expires next June. However, Bayern officials are keen to offload the 31-year old.<\/p>\n

Bayern Munich Set to Allow Jerome Boateng to Depart<\/h2>\n

An Illustrious Bayern Career<\/h3>\n

Boateng<\/a> joined Bayern Munich from Manchester City<\/a> in 2011 and has made 320 appearances for the Bavarian side. In this time, he has won eight Bundesliga titles, five DFB-Pokal’s, and a Champions League title. He has often been cited as the linchpin of the defence and has many individual honors. He was named Bundesliga Player of the Year in 2016, featured in both the Bundesliga and European Championship Team of the Year 2016 and the German Footballer of the Year in 2016. He also won the World Cup with Germany in 2014.<\/p>\n

Despite being one of the best defenders in the world, his time has been marred by injuries. Boateng failed to make 30 league appearances in his nine seasons at Bayern so far. Calf, hamstring and knee injuries accumulated in the German missing a lot of football throughout his career. This may have tainted his legacy as a true Bayern great.<\/p>\n

Boateng Shown the Exit Door<\/h3>\n

Despite all his successes and trophies, Bayern are reportedly ready to show Boateng the exit door. At 31 years old, and with a long injury history, the German champions seem ready to cash in.<\/p>\n

Christian Falk reports that, though he is desperate to stay, Bayern are keen to cash in early. He claims that contractual negotiations have not taken place for any extension.<\/p>\n

So, it appears Jerome Boateng is leaving, but, where will he go next?<\/p>\n

Arsenal<\/a> were the last English club to be linked to the German. Mikel Arteta reportedly<\/a> wanted more steel at the back in January, but could not get a deal over the line either.<\/p>\n
