Sunderland<\/a> have today completed the signing of Australia<\/a> international defender Bailey Wright. The club’s official website<\/a> announced the signing of Wright, with the former Bristol City<\/a> player signing a two-year deal.<\/p>\n

The Australian returns to Wearside having spent the second half of last season on loan. Wright becomes Sunderland’s second signing of the summer, following the capture of forward Aiden O’Brien<\/a> on Friday.<\/p>\n

Bailey Wright Completes Permanent Move to Sunderland<\/h2>\n

Experienced Defender<\/h3>\n

Bailey Wright brings a wealth of experience with him to the Stadium of Light. He spent eight years at Preston North End, where he helped them gain promotion to the Championship. He then moved on to Bristol City,<\/a> where he was named club captain. Wright left City after three years when his contract ended last month.<\/p>\n

The 28-year-old is also an experienced international defender, earning 24 caps for Australia.<\/p>\n

\u00a0Confident Ahead of Next Season<\/h3>\n

Upon returning to Sunderland, this time on a permanent deal, Wright said<\/a>: “It feels really good to get the deal done and I just can\u2019t wait to get up to the North East and join the squad. Although I only worked with the manager for a short spell, I really enjoyed the structure and discipline of the team. He expects his players to give everything on the pitch and be good people, and we have that culture within the dressing room. We are heading in the right direction and I\u2019m very confident we can achieve our ambitions next season.\u201d<\/p>\n

Phil Parkinson Delighted With His New Signing<\/h3>\n

Sunderland manager Phil Parkinson<\/a> was delighted to be able to sign Wright on a permanent contract. The 28-year-old impressed in the games he played last season and is likely to be a key player for Parkinson<\/a>:<\/p>\n

“I\u2019m delighted to have signed Bailey. He\u2019s a very good player, but he\u2019s also an excellent character and leader. He\u2019s a really important signing for us and because of his quality, there was plenty of competition for his signature, so I\u2019d like to credit the owner and Jim Rodwell for getting the deal over the line.\u201d<\/p>\n
