AFC Bournemouth<\/a> manager Eddie Howe has stepped down from his position after the Cherries suffered relegation from the Premier League,<\/a> ending a five-year stay in the top flight. The 42-year-old spent 25 years with the south coast club as both a player and manager.<\/p>\n

New Direction Needed<\/h3>\n

The 42-year-old is leaving AFC Bournemouth after a total of eight years in charge of the Cherries.<\/p>\n

Howe confirmed the split after releasing the following statement<\/a>: “Having spent a total of 25 years with the club as both a player and a manager this decision is one of the hardest I\u2019ve ever had to make.<\/p>\n

“Now is the right time for the club to go in a new direction.”<\/p>\n

Bournemouth Relegated After Finishing Just One Point From Safety<\/h3>\n

After beating Everton 3-1 in their final game, Bournemouth were a whisker away from safety. Just six days ago Howe was refusing to be drawn into discussions about his future<\/a> at the club. However, the search for a new manager will take place in the hopes of returning to the Premier League.<\/p>\n

Discussing the result, and the ultimate relegation of the club, Howe stated<\/a>: “I think the next step for me is to speak to the owner and the directors and see where we go from here. We need to have a strong vision of the future.<\/p>\n

The club are also discussing the possibility of legal action<\/a> after a mistake by Hawk-Eye<\/a> directly affected their relegation.<\/p>\n

Rise of Bournemouth Howe<\/h3>\n

After playing for Bournemouth from 1995 to 2007, with a brief spell at Portsmouth in between, Howe took over as manager in 2008 and his reputation has risen alongside the club. Many consider Howe to be a future England manager<\/a> and he will surely be on many club’s radar.<\/p>\n

Eddie Howe took the managerial position while Bournemouth were struggling both on the pitch and financially. Although nobody expected much from the appointed of Eddie Howe, his reign surpassed all expectations.<\/p>\n

He took the Cherries from 91st in the Football League – and a -17 points deduction – to gaining promotion from Leagues Two and One before winning the Championship.<\/p>\n
