Morecambe<\/a> have completed the signing of defender Stephen Hendrie. The full-back arrives on a free transfer from Scottish Premiership side Kilmarnock.<\/p>\n

Hendrie is Morecambe\u2019s first summer signing as Derek Adams begins to build a squad hoping to improve on last season\u2019s campaign of struggle.<\/p>\n

Hendrie Joins From Scottish Premiership Side Kilmarnock<\/h3>\n

Morecambe announced they had signed the defender via their website<\/a>. Hendrie arrives from Kilmarnock and has signed a one year deal at the Globe Arena.<\/p>\n

Hendrie began his career with Hamilton Academical, making over 100 appearances for the Accies. His time at Hamilton was a successful one with the full back helping the Accies secure promotion to the Scottish Premiership. His impressive displays earned him a move to West Ham United.<\/a><\/p>\n

The full-back is vastly experienced and will certainly shore up the Morecambe defence. His move to West Ham brought plenty of excitement. However, he made a handful of appearances for the Hammers in the Premier League<\/a>. A loan spell at Blackburn Rovers<\/a> followed before his release in 2017.<\/p>\n

Since leaving West Ham, Hendrie has featured for Southend United spending two seasons at Roots Hall before joining Kilmarnock last summer.<\/p>\n

The full-back is experienced in the Football League, and at 25, his best years are certainly still to come.<\/p>\n

Hendrie Happy to Join Morecambe<\/h3>\n

Speaking to the Morecambe website about his move, Hendrie said: \u201cI\u2019m really happy that everything has been sorted and after lockdown and four months without football, I can\u2019t wait to get going.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI played a lot of games early in my career but the last few years has seen things come to a bit of a stall and I\u2019m really happy to be at Morecambe and looking forward to playing football again.\u201d<\/p>\n

Manager Derek Adams added: \u201cStephen has a lot of experience at a good level and went to West Ham for \u00a31M earlier in his career.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHe will give us competition in our defence and will strengthen us on the left-hand side of the pitch, He is a good fit for us.\u201d<\/p>\n
