Cambridge United have confirmed the signing of striker Joe Ironside,<\/a> with the 26-year-old signing a two-year deal at the Abbey Stadium.<\/p>\n

Joe Ironside Joins Cambridge United<\/h2>\n

Strength In Depth in Attack<\/h3>\n

The 26-year-old will provide strength in depth to the U’s attack for the forthcoming season.<\/p>\n

Having already signed Paul Mullin<\/a> this window, Ironside is the second striker to make the move to Cambridgeshire this window.<\/p>\n

Ironside joins from fellow League Two club Macclesfield Town, who narrowly avoided relegation last season. The 26-year-old scored seven goals in all competitions, making him the Silkmen’s top scorer.<\/p>\n

Goals were hard to come by for the U’s during the 2019\/20 season. They had registered just 40 goals in 37 League Two games before the season was curtailed in March.<\/p>\n

As a result, manager Mark Bonner has looked to strengthen in attack. When speaking to the official Cambridge United website<\/a>, it was an area of the pitch that was highlighted before the start of pre-season.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have planned all along to go into the season with four strikers with first team experience,” he said. “As a result, Joe joins a group of attackers including Paul Mullin, Harvey Knibbs, Andy Dallas, Ben Worman and Joe Neal who will work together, challenge each other and make each other better. There is plenty more development left in all of them.\u201d<\/p>\n

Speaking about his move to the Abbey Stadium, Ironside said: “It\u2019s a pleasure to be here and I can\u2019t wait to get going.<\/p>\n

\u201cHaving played here against Cambridge United last season, it\u2019s a great Club with a supportive fanbase. I had positive conversations with Mark Bonner (Head Coach) and I felt immediately it was the right fit for me.<\/p>\n

\u201cI settled back into the Football League well last year, and although I would have liked to have scored more goals, I\u2019m hopeful that can be the case this year. I\u2019d like to think my physical presence and the fact I\u2019ll always look to give 110% are my biggest strengths.<\/p>\n
