After extending his stay until the end of the season post lockdown, Derby County<\/a> have confirmed<\/a> that Chris Martin<\/a> will leave the club as a free agent as of today. The 31-year-old spent seven years at the club, scoring 76 goals in the process to rank 17th in Derby’s record goalscorers list. The news of Martin’s exit comes after a disappointing season for Derby which eventually saw them slump to a 10th place finish.<\/span><\/p>\n

Following Chris Martin’s exit, Derby County chief executive Stephen Pearce stated via the club’s website<\/a>: “Chris has a long-standing association with the football club since arriving from Norwich City initially on loan in February 2013 before signing permanently in the summer.<\/span><\/p>\n

“He has made a telling contribution to Derby County and ranks 17th in the club’s record goalscorer list, scoring 76 goals in all competitions.<\/span><\/p>\n

“We wish to thank Chris for his seven-year service to the football club, and we will endeavour to remain in dialogue with him and his representatives and will always leave the door open for a potential return if he does not find a suitable club.”<\/span><\/p>\n

What Next For Chris Martin?<\/span><\/h3>\n

With 13 goals and seven assists to his name in the season just gone, Chris Martin still looks more than capable of performing in the Championship<\/a>. The experienced forward could be the perfect fit for any team outside the top 10 of the Championship; his veteran-like experience could see him play a crucial role in the development of young forwards at his next club – wherever that may be.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

For now, however, the farewell statements will continue to pour in from Derby fans as they say goodbye to a player who committed everything and more to the club over the last seven years.<\/span><\/p>\n
