Sunderland<\/a> have today completed their first signing of the summer. Their\u00a0official club website<\/a> has confirmed that former Millwall<\/a> forward Aiden O’Brien has signed for the Black Cats.<\/p>\n

The 26-year-old, who left Millwall in June following a nine-year stay with the Lions, has signed a two-year contract on Wearside.<\/p>\n

O’Brien ‘Can’t Wait’ to Get Started<\/h3>\n

Speaking after being unveiled as Sunderland’s first signing of the summer, striker Aiden O’Brien admitted<\/a> he can’t wait to show fans and his new team-mates what he is capable of doing.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt feels terrific to be a Sunderland player,” he said.<\/p>\n

“This is a massive club and I just can\u2019t to get going. I love scoring goals, it\u2019s what I live for and hopefully I can bring plenty to the team. I can\u2019t express how excited I am, and I can\u2019t wait to show the fans and my team-mates what I\u2019m made of.\u201d<\/p>\n

Parkinson Delighted to Welcome Him to the Club<\/h3>\n

Sunderland<\/a> manager Phil Parkinson<\/a> has said that he is delighted to have made his first signing of the summer. It is a position that the Black Cats needed to strengthen, and Parkinson has got his first player.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m really pleased with the signing of Aiden. He\u2019s at a good age, he has experience of winning this division and he has played plenty of Championship football. Aiden can also play in a variety of attacking roles, which I feel is important for us. We are delighted to welcome him to the club and we are looking forward to working with him.\u201d<\/p>\n

Versatile and Experienced<\/h3>\n

Aiden O’Brien arrives at Sunderland<\/a> with plenty of experience at League One and Championship levels. The Republic of Ireland<\/a> international played over 200 games for Millwall<\/a>, scoring 44 goals. He spent much of his time at The Den as a winger. However, he can also play as a striker.<\/p>\n

During Millwall’s spell in League One, O’Brien finished both seasons in double figures. His versatility, pace and height could prove vital to Phil Parkinson<\/a> and Sunderland<\/a> as they push for promotion next season.<\/p>\n
