Manchester City<\/a> have agreed a deal for their first signing of the summer in Valencia winger Ferran Torres.\u00a0 The deal, according to The Athletic’s Sam Lee<\/a>, is\u00a0worth \u20ac25 million with somewhere between \u20ac10-\u20ac15 million in performance-based add-ons. Torres is expected to sign a contract through June 2025<\/a> as Manchester City’s newest Spanish international.<\/p>\n

Leroy Sane Replacement<\/h3>\n

Once Manchester City completed the sale of<\/a> Leroy Sane<\/a>, the search to replace him was on.\u00a0 City were looking for a dynamic winger in Sane’s mould; someone who could get to the byline to create chances. This season, Ferran Torres did that and a lot more for Valencia.<\/p>\n

The 20-year-old Spanish international had his coming out season in La Liga.\u00a0 He posted 26 starts with four goals and five assists playing on the wing for the ninth-place side.\u00a0 Torres was second on the team in shot-creating actions<\/a> with 76 and, of those, he led the team with 11 dribbles to create a shot.<\/p>\n

Torres also put in 90 crosses from open play in just 2,200 minutes in La Liga this season.\u00a0 That number would make him second at City, behind only Kevin De Bruyne<\/a>. It’s his ability to get to the byline and get in a cross or cutback that makes Torres an attractive option for City.<\/p>\n

A Good Price<\/h3>\n

The price made him a realistic option.\u00a0 Manchester City have kicked the tyres<\/a> on players like Mikel Oyarzabal<\/a> to replace Sane, but were met with exorbitant prices. At \u20ac25 million, Torres is a steal and there are already reports that some of the add-ons may be extremely hard to reach.<\/a><\/p>\n

At the end of the day, what Torres brings most is options. Hecan play on both the right and the left; he is an excellent dribbler with both feet; he is predominantly right-footed.\u00a0 That means if Pep Guardiola wants to rest Raheem Sterling<\/a>, he has the space to do so.\u00a0 We will likely see Torres lined up opposite Phil Foden<\/a> in a number of games, allowing both to be able to switch positions – very reminiscent to Sane and Sterling in the past.<\/p>\n
