When Chelsea<\/a> announced the signing of Timo Werner<\/a>, it came as a surprise. The German International had previously fueled speculations over a linking up with Jurgen Klopp, as he was heavily touted to join Premier League winners Liverpool<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

However, an Anfield move failed to materialise after the Reds decided not to match his release clause. As a result, <\/span>Chelsea jumped on the opportunity and acted quickly. They triggered the German’s release clause and fast forward, Timo Werner is a Blue.<\/span><\/p>\n

Timo Werner Wants to Lead for Chelsea<\/span><\/h2>\n

What Was Said<\/h3>\n

After a fairy tale ending at the Red\u00a0Bull Arena<\/span> which saw him become Leipzig\u2019s all-time top scorer with his last touch for the club, Werner joined Chelsea earlier than expected,\u00a0forfeiting<\/span>\u00a0Leipzig’s remaining Champions League fixtures<\/a>.<\/p>\n

After a short break, Werner finally landed in Stamford Bridge last week. <\/span>He watched his new teammates book their Champions League spot with a 2-0 victory over Wolves.<\/span><\/p>\n

Speaking in an interview on the Chelsea official website<\/a>, the 24-year-old stated how Lampard played a major role in his decision to sign for the Blues and his desire to lead the club\u2019s new Era.<\/span><\/p>\n

He said: “It is like a little dream for me but I want to become, not the same player like them, but I want to be part of a new era here so I will play to try to give my best.<\/span><\/p>\n

“He (Lampard) was the main point,” he added. “We talked a lot about things like system, like how he wants to play and sees me playing, and how the system fits to me.<\/span><\/p>\n

“He is a\u00a0really\u00a0nice guy who not only told me what he wants from me as a player because he wants to help me as a guy. He knows me now a\u00a0little bit\u00a0better\u00a0and\u00a0it fits very good between us and now I am happy to be here.” per Sky<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Werner the Blue<\/h3>\n

Werner put pen to paper on a 170,000 per week five-year contract following his \u00a347.5 million switch to Stamford Bridge.<\/span><\/p>\n

The pacy hitman had been on fire the entire season for Leipzig, registering 34 goals and 12 assists in all competition.<\/span><\/p>\n

Following the acquisition of Ajax\u2019s Hakim Ziyech<\/a> in February, Werner becomes Chelsea\u2019s second summer signing as Lampard seeks fresh talents to bolster his squad for the coming season.<\/span><\/p>\n
